How to Make Deliciously Spicy Beef and Radish Soup for a Cozy Day
I love beef and radish soup, so I often make it to perfect the taste. This time, I decided to try a spicy version! On these chilly days, nothing beats a piping hot bowl of soup. Let’s get cooking! This soup is packed with tender beef and crisp radish in a flavorful, warming broth. Adding a touch of spice makes it even more comforting.
Main Ingredients
- Beef (for soup) 300g
- Korean Radish (Moo) 300g
- Green Onion 1 stalk
- Minced Garlic 1 Tbsp
Seasoning & Sautéing Ingredients
- Gochugaru (Korean Chili Flakes) 2.5 Tbsp
- Perilla Oil (Deulgireum) 1 Tbsp
- Cooking Oil 1 Tbsp
- Gochugaru (Korean Chili Flakes) 2.5 Tbsp
- Perilla Oil (Deulgireum) 1 Tbsp
- Cooking Oil 1 Tbsp
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, gently press the beef with paper towels to remove excess blood. Removing the blood will ensure a cleaner tasting broth. Cut the green onion into approximately 5cm lengths and slice the Korean radish thinly, about 0.5cm thick, into bite-sized pieces.
Step 2
Heat 1 Tbsp of perilla oil and 1 Tbsp of cooking oil in a pot over medium heat. Add the beef and sauté until it’s partially cooked. Then, add 2.5 Tbsp of gochugaru and stir-fry with the beef, being careful not to burn the chili flakes. Sautéing the gochugaru like this helps to deepen its flavor and aroma for a richer soup.
Step 3
After stir-frying for about 1 minute with the gochugaru, add the sliced radish. Sauté for another 2-3 minutes until the radish turns slightly translucent. Then, pour in enough water to cover all the ingredients. Bring the soup to a boil over high heat.
Step 4
Once the soup is boiling vigorously, reduce the heat to medium. Add 2 Tbsp of soup soy sauce and 2 Tbsp of anchovy sauce to season the soup. Using anchovy sauce adds a wonderful depth of umami flavor. Taste the broth and adjust the seasoning with salt if needed.
Step 5
Finally, add the cut green onions and 1 Tbsp of minced garlic. Let it simmer for another minute until the fragrant aroma of the green onions and garlic infuses the soup. Your delicious spicy beef and radish soup is ready! Serve it hot for the best flavor. Enjoy a satisfying meal with a bowl of rice!
