Ingredients
  • 1 package Saengsaeng Udon
  • 1 package Jjawang (black bean paste) ramen
  • Red pepper flakes, to taste (optional)
  • 800ml (approx. 4 cups) water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, decide on the amount of water for your Ujjameon. It’s less than what you’d use for two ramen packs, about 800ml (approximately 4 cups), which is equivalent to one and a half standard ramen servings. Once the water boils, add the noodles and soup base.

Step 2

Start by adding the Jjawang (black bean paste) ramen to the pot and boiling it over high heat for about 2 minutes. Then, add the Saengsaeng Udon noodles and continue to boil for another 2 minutes. This process allows both types of noodles to cook perfectly and blend their textures.

Step 3

While the udon noodles are cooking for those 2 minutes, pour the liquid sauce from the Saengsaeng Udon into the Jjawang ramen broth. This sauce adds a rich umami flavor characteristic of udon. Also, include the dried vegetable flakes from the Jjawang ramen for added texture and visual appeal.

Step 4

Finally, add the black bean paste powder from the Jjawang ramen package. Stir well to ensure all ingredients are evenly combined. Those 2 minutes fly by as the flavors meld together, creating a deep and savory black bean udon broth. Keep stirring over high heat after adding the soup base to prevent sticking.

Step 5

Your delicious ‘Ujjameon’ is now ready! Transfer the finished Ujjameon to a serving bowl. For an extra touch, sprinkle the dried garnish from the Saengsaeng Udon package on top. If you prefer a bit of heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes according to your preference. Enjoy this hearty and satisfying meal!
