Super Speedy Side Dish: Make Deliciously Sweet and Salty Sausage Candies with Vienna Sausages
Got some Vienna sausages in the freezer? They might not get eaten as often as you’d think. Transform them into a super-fast side dish that kids will love with this recipe! 🙂
Ingredients
- 1 bowl Vienna sausages (approx. 200-250g)
- A handful of nuts (almonds, walnuts, etc.)
- A little olive oil
- Sesame seeds for garnish
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s make the delicious sauce for the sausage candies. In a small bowl, add 1 tablespoon of ketchup.
Step 2
Add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce.
Step 3
Add 2 tablespoons of oligosaccharide for sweetness. If you don’t have oligosaccharide, you can substitute it with corn syrup or sugar.
Step 4
Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic to enhance the flavor.
Step 5
Add 1 tablespoon of water to adjust the sauce consistency.
Step 6
Stir everything together with a spatula or spoon until well combined to create the delicious sausage candy sauce. Set it aside.
Step 7
Now it’s time to prepare the star ingredient: Vienna sausages. Prepare about one bowl’s worth (approximately 200-250g).
Step 8
Bring a pot of water to a boil. Once boiling, add the Vienna sausages and blanch for about 1 minute. This step helps remove any impurities and lightly drains excess oil, making the sausages cleaner to cook.
Step 9
Remove the blanched sausages from the water and pat them dry. You can use them as they are, or if you want to get fancy, you can cut them in half diagonally or into fun shapes that kids will enjoy. (This step is optional)
Step 10
Prepare some nuts to add a crunchy texture and nutty flavor to your sausage candies. Feel free to use any nuts you have on hand, such as almonds, walnuts, or peanuts.
Step 11
Finely chop the prepared nuts using a knife or a chopper. If you prefer a more noticeable crunch, you can chop them coarser.
Step 12
Lightly grease a heated pan with olive oil. Add the prepared Vienna sausages and stir-fry over medium-low heat until they develop a nice brown color.
Step 13
Once the sausages start to turn golden brown, add the pre-made sauce and the chopped nuts to the pan.
Step 14
Quickly stir-fry to coat the sausages evenly with the sauce. Keep the heat on medium-low and stir for about 1-2 minutes, being careful not to burn the sauce. The sauce will thicken and glaze the sausages, creating that irresistible candy appearance.
Step 15
Finally, sprinkle with sesame seeds for an extra touch of flavor and presentation. Your delicious Vienna sausage candies are ready! They are perfect served over rice for a quick meal or as a delightful snack for kids. Plus, they’re a fantastic way to use up ingredients in your fridge and make in a flash! Enjoy! 🙂
