  • 1 large stalk of green onion (cut into large pieces)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Today, we’re introducing a dish that everyone from kids to adults will love: ‘Sweet Potato Dakbokkeumtang’! It’s so delicious, you’ll finish your rice in no time.

Step 2

Rinse the chicken pieces for Dakbokkeumtang thoroughly. Bring a pot of water to a boil, add 1 Tbsp of cooking wine, and then add the chicken. Boil for 10 minutes to remove any impurities, resulting in a cleaner flavor. Drain the chicken and rinse it under cold water to remove any remaining residue. Pat dry.

Step 3

Now, let’s make the delicious Dakbokkeumtang sauce! In a bowl, combine 2 Tbsp Gochujang, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp sugar, and 1 Tbsp corn syrup. Mix well. Preparing the sauce in advance will make the cooking process much smoother.

Step 4

Arrange the roughly chopped onion and the peeled and chunked sweet potatoes at the bottom of the pot. Pour the prepared sauce mixture over them.

Step 5

If you prefer a spicier kick, add 1 Tbsp of Gochugaru. Feel free to adjust the amount of chili flakes according to your desired level of heat.

Step 6

Add the chicken pieces to the pot and bring to a boil over high heat for about 10 minutes. Once the sauce is boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the pot, and simmer for 20-30 minutes, or until the chicken is tender. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 7

When the chicken and sweet potatoes are nearly cooked, add the large pieces of green onion generously and let it simmer for another few minutes until the flavors meld. The aromatic green onions will enhance the dish’s flavor. Cover and cook for about 5 more minutes to allow all the ingredients to harmonize. Your delicious Sweet Potato Dakbokkeumtang is now ready!
