Cake Batter Ingredients
  • 2 Tbsp dark chocolate chips
  • 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 Tbsp all-purpose flour (or cake flour)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil (like grapeseed oil)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, in a microwave-safe bowl, combine 2 Tbsp dark chocolate chips, 1 Tbsp vegetable oil, and 1 Tbsp of the sugar. Microwave this mixture for 40 to 50 seconds until the chocolate is melted and smooth. Be careful not to overheat it.

Step 2

To the melted chocolate mixture, add 1 Tbsp of flour and, if using, 1 packet of hot chocolate mix. Stir thoroughly until no dry ingredients are visible and everything is well combined. Ensure there are no lumps for a smooth batter.

Step 3

Crack the egg into the bowl. Whisk vigorously until all ingredients are thoroughly incorporated. Aim for a uniform consistency without overmixing.

Step 4

The batter should be thick yet smooth. It should flow slowly when lifted with a spatula. If it seems too stiff, add a tiny bit more oil or water until you reach the desired consistency.

Step 5

Pour the batter into a microwave-safe dish, making sure not to fill it too full as the cake will rise. Microwave for 1 minute to 1 minute and 50 seconds. You can test for doneness by inserting a toothpick; it should come out clean.

Once cooked, let the cake cool slightly before carefully cutting it into a square shape. You can cut it to your desired size. These cake squares will form the bread layers of your sandwich.
