Sweet and Tangy Whelk Salad (Golbaengi Muchim)
【Make an Impressive Main Dish in 10 Minutes!】 Easy Whelk Salad Recipe
As the new year begins, many people set goals, and one of the most common is dieting! I’m on a diet too, sigh. Although I cook every day, I’ve only been tasting things without really eating them. After a few days of not eating properly, I suddenly craved Whelk Salad, something I don’t usually eat often! I asked my husband to buy some on his way home from work, and I quickly mixed it up. ♥ This sweet and tangy dish is absolutely delicious! How about a simple homemade salad with a glass of soju tonight?
Ingredients
- 1 can (230g) Canned Whelk
- 1 Cucumber
- 1 handful Shredded Cabbage
- 2cm piece Carrot
- 1 Onion
Seasoning
- 2 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 3-4 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 2.5 Tbsp Sugar
- 5 Tbsp Vinegar
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 2 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 2 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 3-4 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 2.5 Tbsp Sugar
- 5 Tbsp Vinegar
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 2 Tbsp Sesame Oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Open the canned whelk, rinse it under running water, and drain thoroughly in a colander. This step removes excess oil and ensures a cleaner taste.
Step 2
In a bowl, combine 2 Tbsp Gochujang, 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce, 3-4 Tbsp Gochugaru, 2.5 Tbsp Sugar, 5 Tbsp Vinegar, and 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic. Stir well until the seasoning paste is smooth and evenly mixed. (T refers to Tablespoon, using a standard Korean rice spoon as a measure).
Step 3
Prepare your vegetables by washing and cutting them into bite-sized pieces. I’ve used 1 cucumber, a handful of shredded cabbage, a 2cm piece of carrot, and 1 onion. If you have perilla leaves (kkaennip), definitely add them for an extra boost of flavor! You can also add more whelk, measured by the can’s size.
Step 4
Add all the prepared vegetables and the drained whelk to the bowl with the seasoning paste. Finally, drizzle in 2 Tbsp of Sesame Oil.
Step 5
Put on disposable gloves and gently toss all the ingredients with your hands until everything is well coated with the seasoning. This ensures the flavors meld beautifully. (Tip: Adjust the amount of seasoning to your taste and the quantity of vegetables. If it’s too salty after adding all the seasoning, you can add more vegetables or serve it with boiled somen noodles to make a delicious bibim guksu.)
Step 6
In less than 10 minutes, your impressive Whelk Salad is ready! My family gave it two thumbs up, saying it was incredibly delicious. The sweet and tangy flavor is simply amazing. How about enjoying this simple dish with a glass of soju tonight? I highly recommend you try it!
