Main Ingredients
  • 1/2 package of fish cakes (e.g., square sheets or soup-style), adjust quantity as needed
  • 4 small Cheongyang peppers (Korean chili peppers), adjust for spiciness
  • 2 Tbsp cooking oil

Seasoning Ingredients
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp corn syrup or oligosaccharide (for sweetness and glaze)
  • 1/3 Tbsp granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 Tbsp red pepper flakes (for a spicy kick)
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Sesame seeds (for nutty flavor)
  • 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp water (to prevent seasoning from burning)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, cut the fish cakes and Cheongyang peppers into bite-sized pieces. If you’re using soup-style fish cakes, simply take them out after making soup and cut them up. For the Cheongyang peppers, you can remove the seeds to control the level of spiciness.

Step 2

Heat 2 Tbsp of cooking oil in a pan over low heat. Add 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp corn syrup, 1 Tbsp red pepper flakes, 1/3 Tbsp sugar, and a pinch of black pepper. Gently stir these seasonings and let them simmer slightly. It’s crucial to watch carefully to prevent the seasoning from burning.

Step 3

Once the seasoning has slightly reduced, add the cut fish cakes and Cheongyang peppers to the pan. Also, add 1/2 Tbsp of minced garlic and mix everything well so the ingredients and seasoning are evenly combined.

Step 4

To prevent the seasoning from sticking to the pan or burning during the stir-frying process, add 1 Tbsp of water. Stir-fry everything evenly over medium-low heat rather than high heat, ensuring the ingredients are well coated with the seasoning. Continue to stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until the fish cakes absorb the flavors.

Step 5

Finally, sprinkle sesame seeds generously over the finished stir-fried fish cakes. The nutty sesame seeds will enhance the overall flavor. Serve hot with rice for a truly satisfying meal!
