Spicy and Sweet Sausage and Fish Cake Stir-fry
Easy Vienna Sausage and Fish Cake Stir-fry Recipe for Kids
Thinking about how to make a delicious side dish with Vienna sausages that kids love, I decided to stir-fry them with fish cakes in a slightly spicy sauce. This recipe offers a delightful balance of textures and flavors, perfect for a family meal.
Main Ingredients
- 200g string Vienna sausages
- 5 sheets of square fish cakes (approx. 230g)
- A pinch of sesame seeds (for garnish)
Spicy & Sweet Sauce
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 2 Tbsp Sriracha chili sauce (adjust to spice preference)
- 1 Tbsp oligodang (corn syrup or honey for sweetness, adjust as needed)
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 Tbsp black pepper
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 2 Tbsp Sriracha chili sauce (adjust to spice preference)
- 1 Tbsp oligodang (corn syrup or honey for sweetness, adjust as needed)
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 Tbsp black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the flavorful sauce. In a bowl, combine 1 Tbsp gochugaru, 2 Tbsp Sriracha chili sauce, 1 Tbsp oligodang, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, and 1/2 Tbsp black pepper. Whisk everything together until well combined and there are no lumps. Set the sauce aside.
Step 2
Cut the square fish cakes into bite-sized pieces, or any shape you prefer. Place the cut fish cakes in a sieve and rinse them under hot running water. This step helps to remove excess oil from the fish cakes, resulting in a cleaner taste. Drain them thoroughly.
Step 3
Next, prepare the Vienna sausages. You can score them lightly for better sauce absorption, or leave them whole. Similar to the fish cakes, pour some hot water over the sausages to rinse off excess oil, then drain them well.
Step 4
Now, it’s time to stir-fry! Place a frying pan over low heat. Pour all of the prepared sauce into the pan. It’s important to cook the sauce over very low heat to prevent it from burning.
Step 5
Once the sauce begins to simmer gently, add both the drained fish cakes and Vienna sausages to the pan. Toss them gently with a spatula or shake the pan to ensure all ingredients are evenly coated with the sauce.
Step 6
Continue to stir-fry over low heat for about 2-3 minutes, allowing the ingredients to absorb the sauce and the sauce to thicken slightly. You’ll know it’s done when the ingredients are glossy and the sauce has coated them well. Sprinkle with a pinch of sesame seeds for a nutty finish. Enjoy this delicious side dish with your rice!
