Main Ingredients
  • 800g Tofu (firm or pan-frying tofu recommended)
  • 1/2 cup Finely Chopped Onion
  • 1/4 cup Finely Chopped Carrot
  • 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 0.5 Tbsp Sesame Oil
  • Pinch of Black Pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

It’s crucial to remove as much water as possible from the tofu. Wrap 800g of tofu in a cheesecloth or paper towels and squeeze out the moisture thoroughly. Excess water will make the mixture too wet and difficult to shape.

Step 2

Place the squeezed tofu in a bowl and mash it with your hands until it’s crumbly. Ensure it’s well-mashed without large lumps so it mixes evenly with the other ingredients.

Step 3

Add the finely chopped onion, chopped carrot, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 0.5 Tbsp sesame oil, and a pinch of black pepper to the mashed tofu. Mix everything well to ensure the seasonings are evenly distributed.

Step 4

Mix the prepared ingredients thoroughly to create the Donggeurangttaeng filling. Kneading the mixture with your hands will help the ingredients bind together even better, resulting in a delicious filling.

Step 5

Scoop about a tablespoon of the mixture and flatten it into a round patty shape using your palms. You can adjust the size to be bite-sized for children or larger for adults.

Step 6

Lightly coat each shaped patty with all-purpose flour on both sides. The flour helps the egg wash adhere better and contributes to a slightly crispier texture.

Step 7

Dip the flour-coated patties into the beaten egg wash, ensuring they are fully coated. Allow any excess egg wash to drip off.

Step 8

Heat a pan over medium-low heat with a generous amount of cooking oil. Carefully place the egg-coated patties into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan; leave some space between each patty.

Step 9

Finely chopped red chili peppers can be added on top for garnish, but this step is optional. Cook the Donggeurangttaeng on medium-low heat until both sides are golden brown and cooked through. Be careful not to burn them, ensuring the inside is cooked thoroughly for a delicious result!
