Spam and Egg Fried Rice: Fast and Easy One-Meal Solution
A quick and simple Spam and Egg Fried Rice that’s perfect for any meal. This recipe is designed for speed and ease, making it ideal for busy days.
Ingredients
- 1 serving of cold rice (approx. 200g)
- 1-2 Tbsp Rice Bran Oil (or cooking oil)
- 100g Spam (or luncheon meat)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 medium onion
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)
- Shredded seaweed (garnish, optional)
- Sriracha sauce or ketchup, for serving
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Peel the onion and dice it into small, approximately 0.5cm cubes. Smaller pieces will cook faster and provide a better texture.
Step 2
Dice the Spam into similarly sized cubes, about 0.5cm. It’s helpful to drain the can slightly after opening before dicing for cleaner cuts.
Step 3
Heat 1-2 tablespoons of rice bran oil or cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. First, add the diced onion and sauté until it becomes translucent. Sautéing the onion until it sweetens is key for flavor. Once the onion is softened, add the diced Spam and cook until it’s lightly browned and rendered some of its fat. This fat will add delicious flavor to the dish.
Step 4
Add the cold rice, which has been warmed in the microwave for about 1 minute, to the pan. Use a spatula to break up any clumps and stir-fry the rice, mixing it well with the Spam and onions. Continue to stir-fry until the rice grains start to slightly crisp or toast in the pan; this will enhance the savory flavor.
Step 5
Once the rice is well-fried, push the ingredients to one side of the pan. Crack the 2 eggs into the empty space and scramble them. Once the eggs are mostly cooked, mix them into the rice. Season with a pinch of salt and a dash of black pepper to taste. Finally, sprinkle in some sesame seeds for a nutty aroma and flavor.
Step 6
Spoon the fried rice into a small bowl or a rice mold, pressing it down firmly to shape it. Shaping it while warm will help it hold its form. Carefully invert the bowl onto a serving plate and gently tap to release the molded fried rice.
Step 7
