Main Ingredients
  • Generous amount of fresh shiitake mushrooms
  • 1 onion
  • 1/2 stalk green onion
  • A little cooking oil (for stir-frying)

Seasoning Ingredients
  • Generous amount of store-bought galbi sauce (adjust to taste)
  • A little sesame oil (for finishing)
  • A pinch of sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, trim the tough stems from the shiitake mushrooms. Rinse them under running water and drain well to prepare. Avoid soaking them for too long, as this can diminish their natural aroma.

Step 2

Cut the shiitake mushrooms into bite-sized pieces. They should not be too thinly sliced to maintain a pleasant chewy texture when braised. Slice the onion into similar-sized pieces as the mushrooms, and finely chop the green onion.

Step 3

Heat a little cooking oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant. Then, add the sliced onions and shiitake mushrooms, and stir-fry until the onions become translucent.

Step 4

Now it’s time to add the delicious sauce. Add a generous amount of the store-bought galbi sauce and mix well to coat the mushrooms and onions evenly. To prevent the sauce from burning, reduce the heat to low. It’s important to add a little water as needed while braising to keep it from sticking. Slow simmering allows the flavors to deeply penetrate the mushrooms.

Step 5

Finally, add the chopped green onions and stir-fry for another minute or so until slightly softened. The natural sweetness of the green onions adds another layer of flavor.

Step 6

Just before turning off the heat, drizzle in a little sesame oil for a glossy finish and to enhance the nutty aroma. Sprinkle with sesame seeds for a final touch. Your delicious braised shiitake mushrooms are now ready!
