Ingredients
  • 50g popcorn kernels
  • 15-30g sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 5g unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 15g salted butter
  • A little grapeseed oil (for popping)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare a deep pan and generously coat the bottom with grapeseed oil. Add the popcorn kernels and stir them over medium heat. Ensure the kernels are evenly coated with oil as you stir. After a short while, you’ll hear the first few kernels start to ‘pop’.

Step 2

Once the popping begins, immediately cover the pan with a lid. Gently shake the pan as the kernels pop until the popping sounds subside. Maintaining medium heat is crucial to prevent burning and ensure even popping. When the popping is mostly finished and the sounds have significantly died down, turn off the heat.

Step 3

Transfer the popped popcorn to a separate bowl to cool slightly. Leave the pan as it is, and while the residual heat is still present (without turning the heat back on), add the 15g of salted butter.

Step 4

As the butter begins to melt, add the 15-30g of sugar. You can adjust the amount of sugar based on your preference for sweetness.

Step 5

Thanks to the pan’s warmth, the butter and sugar will slowly melt and begin to caramelize. Gently stir with a spatula to help the butter and sugar melt completely.

Step 6

Now, pour the popped popcorn back into the pan. Use a spatula to gently mix and coat the popcorn evenly with the melted butter and sugar mixture. It’s important to stir softly to avoid crushing the popcorn kernels.

Step 7

Once the popcorn is coated with the butter and sugar mixture, sift the 5g of unsweetened cocoa powder over it. Ensure the cocoa powder is evenly distributed.

Step 8

Gently toss the popcorn again with the spatula to ensure the cocoa powder coats everything evenly. Your delicious cocoa chocolate popcorn is ready! It’s wonderful enjoyed warm right away, or you can let it cool completely for a satisfying crunch.
