Hearty Vegetable Kimbap

A Journey with Vegetable Kimbap and Rice Hot Dogs Made with [Kawaji No. 1 Rice]!

Since going out can be risky, we prepared some vegetable kimbap and rice hot dogs for a picnic right on our balcony at home. The chewy texture and delicious taste of the Kawaji No. 1 rice made it a hit with the whole family. Enjoy this recipe for a delightful meal and a fun experience!

Kimbap Ingredients
  • 3 cups Kawaji rice
  • 3 imitation crab sticks
  • 6 pickled radish strips (danmuji)
  • 5 eggs
  • 6 sheets of kimbap seaweed (gim)
  • 6 kimbap ham sticks
  • 3 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

We had a delightful home picnic with homemade vegetable kimbap and hearty rice hot dogs! Our family absolutely loved the chewy texture of the Kawaji No. 1 rice, which made our meal even more special.

Step 2

First, cook 3 cups of Kawaji No. 1 rice. While the rice is cooking, prepare all the kimbap fillings. For the eggs, make thin omelets, let them cool, and then slice them. Cut the imitation crab sticks into bite-sized pieces. Drain the pickled radish strips and lightly pan-fry the ham sticks for kimbap. (You can also add other vegetables like spinach or carrots, if desired).

Step 3

Once the rice is cooked, let it steam for a few minutes. Then, using a rice paddle, gently fluff the rice to separate the grains and make it slightly chewy, ensuring it doesn’t clump together. This step is crucial for making perfectly rolled kimbap.

Step 4

Season the fluffed rice to enhance its flavor. Add 3 tablespoons of sesame oil and 3 tablespoons of toasted sesame seeds. You can also add a pinch of salt and a dash of pepper to taste. Gently mix everything together so the seasoning is evenly distributed among the rice grains.

Step 5

Now it’s time to roll the kimbap! Lay a sheet of kimbap seaweed flat. Spread a thin, even layer of the seasoned rice over the seaweed, leaving a small border at the top edge. Arrange the prepared fillings – egg omelet, imitation crab, pickled radish, and ham – neatly on top of the rice. Carefully roll the kimbap tightly from the bottom edge. Lightly moisten the top border with water to seal the roll.

Step 6

For an extra special treat, let’s make rice hot dogs! After rolling the kimbap tightly, you can shape some of the seasoned rice into a hot dog form, place it on a skewer, and you have a delicious rice hot dog! Arrange the kimbap rolls and rice hot dogs attractively in a picnic box.

Step 7

Your delicious vegetable kimbap and hearty rice hot dogs are now ready! The picnic preparations are complete!

Spread a picnic mat on your balcony and enjoy a delightful time as if you were truly outdoors. Sitting together with your loved ones, sharing delicious food, and savoring the picnic atmosphere is a wonderful experience.^^
