  • 1 onion
  • 1 Korean green chili pepper (Cheongyang pepper)
  • 1 stalk green onion
  • 2 Tbsp butter

  • 4 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin, etc.)
  • 1/2 Tbsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • Pinch of black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Here are the ingredients for our stir-fried shrimp. Coconut milk is readily available at most supermarkets. I’m using frozen Argentinian red shrimp with the heads removed, which I also purchased from the market. Feel free to use your preferred fresh shrimp.

Step 2

The large red shrimp I’m using have a pre-cut incision along their backs, making it very easy to peel off the shells. The digestive tracts were also already removed.

Step 3

If your shrimp have digestive tracts, you can easily remove them by piercing the segmented back of the shrimp with a toothpick.

Step 4

Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onion and minced garlic, and sauté until fragrant.

Step 5

Once the onion becomes translucent, add the shrimp and stir-fry for about 1 minute. It’s important not to overcook the shrimp, as they can become tough and lose their delicious flavor. Just cook them until they turn pink.

Step 6

As the shrimp begin to turn pink, pour in 180ml of coconut milk. The creamy texture and subtle sweetness of the coconut milk will elevate the dish’s flavor.

Step 7

Once the coconut milk starts to simmer, add the sliced green onion. The fresh aroma of the green onion will beautifully complement the sauce.

Step 8

Now, let’s taste the sauce. If it needs more salt, add it gradually. Be aware that some frozen shrimp might already be seasoned, so always taste before adding more salt.

Step 9

For a touch of heat, add 1 chopped Korean green chili pepper. If you prefer it spicier, feel free to add two. Adjust according to your preference.

Step 10

Finally, stir in 1 tablespoon of cooking wine and a pinch of black pepper. Give it a quick mix and turn off the heat immediately. Overcooking can affect the texture of the ingredients.

Step 11

The combination of coconut milk and shrimp is truly exceptional. The sauce is so rich and delicious, you won’t be able to stop! This recipe also works wonderfully with king crab or snow crab. (Reference: ★How to Prepare King Crab: @6971338 ★King Crab Stir-Fry Recipe: @6971428)

Step 12

Garnish the finished stir-fried shrimp with fresh thyme or parsley for an extra touch of flavor and visual appeal. The herbaceous notes will enhance the overall taste. This dish is perfect as an elegant wine appetizer or a hearty rice side dish. Give this shrimp stir-fry a try!
