Main Ingredients
  • 1 pack Radish wrappers (Mussam)
  • 2 Bell peppers (e.g., red, yellow, orange)
  • 1 Carrot
  • 6 sticks Imitation crab meat (surimi)
  • 2 Cucumbers
  • 1 pack Sprouts (e.g., radish sprouts, alfalfa sprouts)

Mustard Dipping Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Prepared mustard
  • 1 Tbsp Vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp Oligodang (corn syrup) or honey
  • 2 Tbsp Sugar

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, wash the colorful bell peppers thoroughly. Remove the stems and seeds, then julienne them into thin, long strips. The crisp texture of the bell peppers will significantly enhance the flavor of your Mussam Mari.

Step 2

Similarly, wash the carrot, peel it, and then julienne it into strips of similar length to the bell peppers. The natural sweetness and vibrant color of the carrot will make the dish even more appealing.

Step 3

Wash the cucumbers under running water. Use a vegetable peeler to lightly peel the skin in a spiral pattern; this helps prevent the cucumber from bending and ensures a neat roll. After peeling, slice the cucumbers in half lengthwise, scoop out the seeds, and then julienne them.

Step 4

Unwrap the imitation crab sticks and cut them into three equal lengths. Then, gently shred them along the grain. Shredding helps the filling absorb the sauce better and improves the texture. Try not to shred them too finely for a better bite.

Step 5

Carefully trim any wilted or discolored leaves from the sprouts and wash them gently. After washing, drain them thoroughly in a colander. Excess water can cause the radish wrappers to become soggy and difficult to roll.

Step 6

Now, let’s start assembling the Mussam Mari. Lay one sheet of radish wrapper flat on a clean work surface or plate. Handle the radish wrappers gently to prevent tearing.

Step 7

Arrange the prepared julienned vegetables and shredded imitation crab meat attractively on top of the radish wrapper. A good layering order is bell peppers, imitation crab, carrots, and cucumbers.

Step 8

Add a small bundle of fresh sprouts on top of the other ingredients. Be careful not to overfill, as this will make rolling difficult. A balanced amount of filling is key.

Step 9

Starting from one edge, carefully and tightly roll up the radish wrapper, enclosing all the filling. Press gently as you roll to keep the filling compact and prevent it from falling out. Start by rolling loosely, then lightly press the filling to guide it into a tight roll until the end.

Step 10

Once rolled, slice the Mussam Mari into bite-sized pieces. Arrange them neatly on a serving plate. Slicing them into individual portions makes them easier to eat, and arranging them attractively can elevate the presentation.

Step 11

Next, prepare the refreshing mustard dipping sauce. In a small bowl, add 1 tablespoon of prepared mustard. You can adjust the amount of mustard according to your preference for spiciness.

Step 12

Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar to the mustard. This will provide a pleasant tanginess to the sauce.

Step 13

Stir in 2 tablespoons of oligodang (or corn syrup/honey) for a touch of sweetness and gloss. This balances the sharpness of the mustard and vinegar.

Step 14

Finally, add 2 tablespoons of sugar to complete the sweet and sour flavor profile.

Step 15

Whisk all the sauce ingredients together until well combined and smooth. Ensure the sugar is fully dissolved. Taste the sauce and adjust the sweetness or tanginess to your liking. A well-blended sauce is essential.

Step 16

Serve the beautifully arranged Mussam Mari with the prepared mustard dipping sauce on the side. You can dip each roll into the sauce or drizzle a little over the top. Enjoy your fresh and delicious Mussam Mari for a delightful meal!
