Perfect Steak Made with an Air Fryer

Restaurant-Quality Steak at Home: How to Cook Steak in Your Air Fryer

I received a lovely steak as a gift and debated how to cook it, but finally decided to try using my air fryer! The air fryer, which I’d only used for fries before, is about to transform into a steak master. Enjoy a juicy steak with a perfectly seared exterior and tender, flavorful interior, all made easily at home.

  • Category : Western food
  • Ingredient Category : Beef
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Grilled / Roasted
  • Servings : 2 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 15 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Key Ingredients
  • 600g beef for steak (thick cuts are recommended)

Flavor Enhancers
  • Pinch of coarse salt (adjust to steak thickness)
  • Freshly ground black pepper (using whole peppercorns ground fresh offers the best flavor)
  • 1-2 Tbsp garlic olive oil (the garlic aroma enhances the steak’s richness)
  • 1-2 tsp seasoning powder (use your favorite steak seasoning or herb salt)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare your steak cuts. Pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Season one side generously with coarse salt and black pepper, and sprinkle the seasoning powder evenly over the other side. Let the seasoned steak rest at room temperature for about 20-30 minutes. This allows the internal and external temperatures of the meat to equalize, ensuring a more even cook.

Step 2

Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (350°F). For a well-done steak, which we prefer, I set the timer for 15 minutes. Place the steak in the air fryer basket and cook for the set time. Flipping the steak halfway through will help it cook more evenly. Adjust the cooking time based on your desired doneness. For medium-well, approximately 12 minutes might be suitable. Keep in mind that the thickness of the steak will affect the cooking time. Adding a pat of butter on top after flipping can add a wonderful richness.

Step 3

While the steak is cooking in the air fryer, you can prepare a simple side dish. Mix tempura flour with water to create a batter, then lightly batter and fry fresh perilla leaves (깻잎) for crispy, aromatic fritters. These make a delightful accompaniment to the steak.

Step 4

Your delicious steak is ready! The french fries served alongside are leftover frozen ones from home, which I’ve fried until golden and crispy. A wonderful meal is complete!

Step 5

A steak of this thickness will cook to well-done in 15 minutes at 180°C! However, the recommended time is generally 12 minutes. Allowing the steak to rest after cooking for 12 minutes will result in an even juicier steak, so consider this when aiming for your perfect level of doneness!
