  • Tofu 1 block (approx. 300g)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare your salted seaweed. If you are using fresh seaweed, wash it thoroughly.

Step 2

Soak the salted seaweed in cold water for about 30 minutes to remove excess salt. Once the saltiness has reduced, rinse it under running water multiple times to clean it and remove any debris. It’s best to trim off the tough root parts of the seaweed.

Step 3

For the tofu, choose a firmer variety, like the kind used for pan-frying or stewing, as it contains less water. If the tofu is too watery, the salad might become mushy.

Step 4

Hold the knife horizontally and press down on the tofu to mash it. Avoid mashing it too finely; leaving some chunks will give a more pleasant texture.

Step 5

To remove excess moisture from the mashed tofu, place a few layers of paper towels on a plate, spread the tofu over them, and then cover with more paper towels. Gently press down. Repeating this process about twice will effectively drain the tofu, resulting in a more delicious seaweed and tofu salad.

Step 6

Heat a pan over medium-low heat and add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Once the pan is warm, add the drained seaweed and sauté it lightly. Lightly sautéing the seaweed helps to remove any unpleasant odor and gives it a chewier texture.

Step 7

Add the prepared mashed tofu to the sautéed seaweed. Pour in 1.5 tablespoons of soy sauce. Gently mix everything together using your hands, breaking up the tofu as you combine it with the seaweed. Be careful not to over-mix. This completes your delicious seaweed and tofu salad. You can also add sesame oil or sesame seeds for extra flavor if you like.
