Napa Cabbage Soybean Paste Stew
Simple and Heartwarming Napa Cabbage Miso Soup Recipe
On this chilly day, I’m sharing a simple and comforting soup recipe that’s perfect for warming you up! This soup is incredibly easy to make and brings out the natural sweetness of the cabbage.
Main Ingredients
- 5 leaves of Napa Cabbage (or baby Napa cabbage)
- 100g Radish
- 1 stalk Green Onion
- 1 Red Chili
- 1 Green Chili
- 1 liter Water
Seasoning Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp Soybean Paste (Miso)
- 3 Coin-shaped Anchovy Broth Cubes (or 1 liter anchovy broth)
- 1/2 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 2 Tbsp Soybean Paste (Miso)
- 3 Coin-shaped Anchovy Broth Cubes (or 1 liter anchovy broth)
- 1/2 Tbsp Minced Garlic
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, pour 1 liter of water into a pot and add 3 coin-shaped anchovy broth cubes. If you don’t have these cubes, you can use 1 liter of homemade anchovy and kelp broth. Once the broth starts boiling, prepare the remaining ingredients.
Step 2
Cut the Napa cabbage into bite-sized pieces. If they are too large, they might be difficult to eat. Slice the radish thinly into matchsticks. Finely chop the green onion, red chili, and green chili. These will be used as a garnish. If you enjoy a bit of spice, feel free to add more green chilies.
Step 3
When the broth is at a rolling boil, place 2 tablespoons of soybean paste (miso) into a fine-mesh sieve and dissolve it in the broth. This technique ensures the paste integrates smoothly without clumps. After adding the soybean paste, add the julienned radish. Cover the pot and simmer over medium heat for about 10 minutes, or until the radish becomes tender.
Step 4
Once the radish is tender, add the chopped Napa cabbage and 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic. Cover the pot again and continue to simmer for another 10 minutes. This will allow the cabbage to cook through and release its natural sweetness. Be careful not to overcook the cabbage, as it can become mushy.
Step 5
Finally, add the chopped green onion, red chili, and green chili. Let it simmer for a brief moment. Taste the soup and adjust the seasoning with a dash of soy sauce or salt if needed. Your delicious Napa Cabbage Soybean Paste Stew is ready to be enjoyed with a warm bowl of rice!
