Mild Mapo Tofu Loved by Kids and Adults
Baby Food) Mild Mapo Tofu using Minced Pork and Silken Tofu
It’s delicious enough for adults, and kids absolutely adore it! My son, who usually doesn’t eat much, had three bowls of rice with this! ^^ It’s a wonderfully mild and flavorful dish perfect for the whole family.
Main Ingredients
- 200g minced pork
- 2 packs silken tofu (approx. 300-350g)
- 1/2 onion
- 1/2 green onion
- 300ml water
Seasoning Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 2 Tbsp mild, non-spicy seasoning sauce
- 0.5 Tbsp soy sauce
- 0.5 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp cornstarch slurry (1 Tbsp cornstarch + 2 Tbsp water)
- 1 tsp oyster sauce
- A pinch of salt
- A pinch of black pepper
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 2 Tbsp mild, non-spicy seasoning sauce
- 0.5 Tbsp soy sauce
- 0.5 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp cornstarch slurry (1 Tbsp cornstarch + 2 Tbsp water)
- 1 tsp oyster sauce
- A pinch of salt
- A pinch of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, place the minced pork on kitchen paper towels and gently press to remove any excess blood or liquid. Finely chop the onion and green onion into small pieces suitable for children.
Step 2
Heat a deep frying pan over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. Allow the fragrant aroma to develop.
Step 3
Add the chopped green onions and onions to the pan. Sauté for about 1-2 minutes until the onions become translucent and the fragrance of the green onions rises.
Step 4
Once the aroma from the green onions and onions is sufficiently released, add the minced pork. Sprinkle a tiny pinch of salt and pepper over the pork, and stir-fry while breaking up any clumps of meat. It’s important to stir well to prevent the meat from sticking together.
Step 5
When the pork is about halfway cooked and has turned white on the surface, add the oyster sauce, sugar, and soy sauce. Stir well to combine the ingredients with the sauce. Ensure the ingredients are evenly coated.
Step 6
Once the sugar and soy sauce have dissolved nicely, add 2 tablespoons of the mild, non-spicy seasoning sauce suitable for children and stir-fry together. Continue to sauté to allow the sauce’s flavor to penetrate the meat for an even tastier result.
Step 7
When the ingredients are sufficiently stir-fried, pour in 300ml of water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer.
Step 8
During simmering, skim off any excess oil that may rise to the surface from the meat or vegetables. This will result in a cleaner taste.
Step 9
Once the mixture is simmering gently, add the silken tofu, breaking it into large pieces with a spoon. Gently mash the tofu with chopsticks or a spoon, being careful not to break it down completely. It’s best to handle the silken tofu delicately.
Step 10
Now, prepare the cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce. In a small bowl, combine 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water and mix until smooth, ensuring there are no lumps.
Step 11
Once the tofu is added and the mixture begins to simmer again, taste it and adjust the seasoning with salt or soy sauce if needed. Then, gradually pour in the prepared cornstarch slurry while stirring, until you achieve your desired sauce consistency. After adding the cornstarch, simmer for another minute or so to ensure the sauce thickens properly.
Step 12
Serve generously over warm rice for a delicious and mild mapo tofu that both children and adults will love! It makes a fantastic side dish for kids’ meals or even a flavorful appetizer for adults.
