Main Ingredients
  • 3 hot dog buns or your preferred bread
  • 3 eggs
  • 150g cabbage
  • 1/2 carrot
  • 1/3 cucumber

Salad Filling
  • 5 Tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • A pinch of black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare all the ingredients for your salad bread. Using fresh vegetables will ensure the best texture.

Step 2

Place the eggs in a pot, cover with water, and boil until hard-boiled. Once the water boils, continue cooking for about 12 minutes for perfectly hard-boiled eggs. (For a very firm yolk, you can boil for about 15 minutes.)

Step 3

Wash the cabbage thoroughly under running water. Slice it into thick shreds, about 0.5cm wide, to maintain a satisfying crunch. Cutting it too thinly might reduce the crispiness.

Step 4

Peel the carrot, slice it thinly, then julienne it finely to match the thickness of the shredded cabbage. The carrot adds a lovely color to the salad bread.

Step 5

Wash the cucumber and slice it thinly. These slices will be placed inside the bread.

Step 6

Once the eggs are hard-boiled, peel them and chop them into large pieces, similar in size to the shredded cabbage. Avoid chopping them too small, as this can lessen the textural experience.

Step 7

In a large bowl, combine the coarsely chopped cabbage, julienned carrots, and chopped hard-boiled eggs. Add 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon of sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt, and a pinch of pepper. Gently mix everything together until well combined and the dressing coats all the ingredients evenly. Ensuring the dressing fully incorporates is key.

Step 8

Carefully make a slit in each bun, cutting about two-thirds of the way through. Avoid cutting all the way to prevent the filling from falling out.

Step 9

Spread 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise evenly inside each of the three buns. The mayonnaise adds moisture and helps hold the filling in place.

Step 10

Arrange the cucumber slices neatly inside the bread. The cucumber adds a refreshing crunch.

Step 11

Generously spoon the prepared salad filling (mayonnaise mixture with vegetables and egg) over the cucumber slices. Fill the buns adequately, but avoid overstuffing to prevent them from bursting.

Step 12

Finally, drizzle ketchup over the top of the salad bread as desired. The vibrant red ketchup completes the flavor and visual appeal of your homemade salad bread. Enjoy your delicious creation!
