  • 1 Tbsp corn syrup (adjust sweetness)
  • 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 50ml water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare all your ingredients before you begin cooking. You can adjust the amount of tteokguk rice cakes and galbi patties according to your taste for an even more delicious meal.

Step 2

Soak the tteokguk rice cakes in water for about 10 minutes, then rinse them under running water. Drain the rice cakes thoroughly to remove excess water. This step ensures they won’t stick together when stir-frying and will result in a chewier texture.

Step 3

Cut the galbi patties into bite-sized pieces. This makes them easy to eat with the rice cakes and allows the sauce to coat them evenly for maximum flavor.

Step 4

Let’s make the delicious seasoning sauce! In a bowl, combine 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp fish sauce, 1 Tbsp mirin, 1/2 Tbsp oyster sauce, 1 Tbsp corn syrup, 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic, and 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil. Add a pinch of black pepper. Finally, pour in 50ml of water and stir everything together until well combined. Your flavorful sauce is ready!

Step 5

Now, let’s get stir-frying! Lightly oil a pan and add the drained tteokguk rice cakes and the cut galbi patties. Stir-fry them for a few minutes. Once the rice cakes start to look slightly translucent, pour in all the prepared seasoning sauce. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats the rice cakes and galbi patties nicely. Be sure to stir frequently to prevent sticking or burning.

Step 6

When the rice cakes and galbi patties are glossy and coated with the sauce, add some chopped green onions (scallions) and stir-fry briefly. The fresh aroma of the green onions will enhance the dish. Once the sauce has mostly reduced and is well absorbed, your Tteokguk Rice Cake Galbi Patty Stir-Fry is complete! Enjoy it served over rice or as a delightful accompaniment to your favorite beverages. ♬
