Golden Ratio! Sweet & Juicy Boiled Corn Recipe
How to Boil Corn Perfectly for a Delicious Treat!
I recently received some wonderful fresh corn from a friend! Today, I’m excited to share a simple yet incredibly effective method to boil corn, ensuring it’s bursting with sweetness and perfectly tender. Get ready to enjoy this beloved snack at home!
Ingredients
- 6 ears of fresh corn
- 1 Tbsp coarse salt
- 1/3 Tbsp New Sugar (or granulated sugar)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by preparing the corn. Peel back the outer husks, leaving about 2-3 layers intact for protection. Then, carefully remove all the corn silk. Rinse the corn thoroughly under cool water. This quantity is perfect for about 2 servings.
Step 2
The secret to delicious boiled corn lies in this flavorful water! In a pot, combine 1 tablespoon of coarse salt and 1/3 tablespoon of New Sugar (or granulated sugar). Add 1 cup of warm water and stir until both the salt and sugar are completely dissolved. New Sugar adds a unique flavor, but regular sugar works well too.
Step 3
Now, let’s get ready to boil the corn. 1. Pour the dissolved salt and sugar mixture into a pot. Add enough additional water to ensure the corn will be fully submerged. Using plenty of water allows the corn to cook evenly and absorb the flavors beautifully. 2. Cover the pot with a lid and bring it to a boil over high heat.
Step 4
Once the water reaches a rolling boil, let it boil for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, use tongs to carefully flip the ears of corn. This step helps the corn absorb the seasoning evenly. 2. Cover the pot again and continue to boil over high heat for another 15 minutes. Make sure to maintain a strong boil throughout this period.
Step 5
As the corn nears completion, it’s time for the final touch. 1. Reduce the heat from high to low. Cover the pot and let the corn steam for 5 minutes. This ‘steaming’ process allows the sweetness to deepen and the corn to become extra tender. 2. After 5 minutes, test for doneness by piercing a kernel with a skewer or fork; it should go in easily. Once cooked, turn off the heat and let the corn cool slightly to a comfortable eating temperature.
Step 6
Arrange the perfectly boiled corn on a plate, and your delicious homemade corn snack is ready to be enjoyed! It’s wonderful served warm or chilled.
