Crispy Bean Sprout and Crab Stick Salad
How to Make a Deliciously Crunchy Bean Sprout and Crab Stick Salad
On hot days, having a few refreshing side dishes prepared makes dinner preparation so much easier. Today, I’ve made a slightly different kind of side dish for kids using bean sprouts and crab sticks ^^
Ingredients
- 200g bean sprouts
- 3 imitation crab sticks
- A little green onion
- 0.5 Tbsp fish sauce
- 0.5 Tbsp Yeondu (Korean soy sauce or all-purpose seasoning)
- 2 pinches salt
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 pinch minced garlic
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, rinse the bean sprouts 2-3 times under running water. Place the rinsed bean sprouts in a pot and add about 1 cup of water, just enough to cover them slightly. Cover the pot with a lid and bring to a boil over high heat. Once it comes to a rolling boil, reduce the heat to medium and cook for about 3-4 minutes. Turn off the heat and let it steam, covered, for another 2 minutes. This helps maintain their crispiness.
Step 2
While the bean sprouts are cooking, finely mince the green onion. Shred the imitation crab sticks lengthwise into bite-sized pieces.
Step 3
Drain the cooked bean sprouts thoroughly using a colander. Gently toss them with chopsticks while they are still warm to help them cool down slightly. (Tip: Although the cooking water contains nutrients, if you prefer a less watery salad, draining them well like this will result in a cleaner dish.)
Step 4
Once the bean sprouts have cooled down a bit, drizzle 1 tablespoon of sesame oil over them and toss to coat. Adding sesame oil first helps the flavor infuse better and makes them more fragrant.
Step 5
Add the minced green onion and shredded imitation crab sticks to the bean sprouts. Season with 0.5 tablespoon of fish sauce, 0.5 tablespoon of Yeondu, 2 pinches of salt, and 1 pinch of minced garlic. Gently mix everything together with your hands until well combined. Your crunchy and delicious bean sprout and crab stick salad is ready!
