Main Ingredients
  • Dried Anchovies (for broth, small size) 3 cups (using a standard paper cup)
  • Pumpkin Seeds 1/2 cup
  • Sunflower Seeds 1/2 cup

Seasoning Ingredients
  • Honey 3 Tbsp
  • Sugar 1/2 Tbsp
  • Plum Extract 3 Tbsp
  • Black Pepper 1/2 tsp
  • Sesame Oil 1 Tbsp
  • Sesame Seeds, a pinch
  • Cooking Oil 2 Tbsp

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, heat a pan over medium heat and add 2 Tbsp of cooking oil. Add the 3 cups of dried anchovies (measured with a standard paper cup) and stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until the anchovies are well coated with the oil. This step helps to remove any fishy smell and brings out their savory flavor.

Step 2

Once the anchovies are somewhat toasted, add 1/2 tsp of black pepper and stir quickly. The aroma of the pepper will blend with the anchovies, enhancing the overall flavor.

Step 3

Next, add the pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds to the pan and continue to stir-fry with the anchovies for about 3 minutes. It’s important to stir frequently to prevent the seeds from burning. When they are lightly toasted, pour in 3 Tbsp of plum extract and stir once more to coat everything. The plum extract adds a nice sheen to the anchovies and nuts.

Step 4

Now, reduce the heat to low or turn off the stove temporarily. Add 1/2 Tbsp of sugar and 3 Tbsp of honey. Mix well to ensure the anchovies and nuts are evenly coated with the seasoning. Stirring off the heat helps prevent the sauce from burning.

Step 5

Finally, drizzle in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil for an extra boost of nutty aroma. It’s best to add sesame oil after turning off the heat to preserve its fragrance.

Step 6

Sprinkle with sesame seeds to your liking. Your delicious, crispy, and savory stir-fried anchovies with nuts are now ready! Once completely cooled, store in an airtight container to enjoy for a long time.
