Creamy Seafood Pasta for Little Ones
Creamy Seafood Pasta with Milk and Cheese Sauce: A Delightful Noodle Dish for Babies
For my baby who was going through a picky eating phase, I made this rich and creamy pasta with shrimp and squid, their favorites. It’s a delightful way to introduce new flavors and textures.
Ingredients
- 6 medium shrimp, deveined and peeled
- 20g onion (about 1/4 small onion), thinly sliced
- 1/3 squid body, cleaned and cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 portion fusilli pasta (approx. 30-40g)
- 300ml fresh milk
- 1 slice baby cheese
Seasoning & Others
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- Pinch of black pepper (to taste)
- A little butter
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- Pinch of black pepper (to taste)
- A little butter
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Rinse the shrimp under cold water. Gently remove the devein from the back and trim the tails if desired. Clean the squid body, remove the skin, and cut it into small, bite-sized pieces. Having your seafood prepped makes cooking much smoother.
Step 2
Thinly slice the onion into long strips. Start by boiling the fusilli pasta in plenty of water for about 15 minutes. While the pasta cooks, you can prepare the other ingredients. It’s helpful to time the pasta cooking with the seafood sautéing.
Step 3
Melt a small amount of butter in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, being careful not to burn it. This creates a wonderful base for the sauce.
Step 4
Once the garlic is aromatic, add the sliced onions to the pan and stir-fry until they become translucent and tender. Then, add the prepared squid and shrimp to the pan and cook along with the onions. Stir frequently to prevent sticking.
Step 5
To eliminate any potential fishiness and enhance the flavor, sprinkle a pinch of black pepper over the seafood. If your baby is sensitive to pepper, you can omit it or use a very small amount. I used ground black pepper for a milder flavor.
Step 6
Continue to sauté the shrimp and squid until the shrimp turn opaque and are cooked through, which should take about 2-3 minutes. Be careful not to overcook the seafood, as it can become tough.
Step 7
Once the seafood is nicely cooked, pour in the fresh milk (300ml). Add the cooked pasta to the pan. Increase the heat to medium-high and let the sauce simmer and thicken, stirring occasionally so it coats the pasta beautifully.
Step 8
As the milk reduces and the sauce thickens, add the slice of baby cheese. Stir gently until the cheese is completely melted and well incorporated into the sauce, creating a smooth and creamy texture.
Step 9
When the sauce has reached a nice, creamy consistency that coats the pasta, turn off the heat. The cheese provides enough seasoning, so no additional salt is usually needed for babies. Let it cool slightly to a safe temperature before serving your delicious homemade seafood cream pasta!
