Main Ingredients
  • 16 medium potatoes
  • 6 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 200ml fresh heavy cream
  • 1 tsp fine salt
  • 3 Tbsp mayonnaise
  • 5 Tbsp warm milk
  • A pinch of freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 slice cheddar cheese (optional)
  • A sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese (for garnish, optional)
  • A sprinkle of dried parsley flakes (for garnish, optional)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Thoroughly wash the 16 potatoes, then peel them completely. Arrange the peeled potatoes in a steamer basket.

Step 2

Cover the steamer with a lid and steam over high heat for about 10 minutes, or until the potatoes are completely tender. They are ready when a fork or knife easily pierces them.

Step 3

It’s crucial to mash the potatoes while they are still hot. Transfer the steamed potatoes to a bowl and mash them until very smooth using a potato masher or a fork. Mashing them while hot ensures a luxuriously creamy texture.

Step 4

To the mashed potatoes, add 6 tablespoons of unsalted butter for a rich flavor, 200ml of fresh heavy cream for creaminess, 1 teaspoon of salt for basic seasoning, 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise for added smoothness and tang, 5 tablespoons of warm milk to adjust consistency, and a generous pinch of freshly ground black pepper for aroma. Stir everything together thoroughly until well combined and no lumps remain.

Step 5

Depending on the type and how the potatoes were cooked, their moisture content can vary. Adjust the amount of warm milk accordingly to achieve your desired consistency. If it seems too stiff, gradually add more warm milk. If it’s too runny, you can add a bit more butter or cream.

Step 6

Once cooled, transfer the finished mashed potatoes to an airtight container and refrigerate. Portioning them into smaller containers before storing makes it easy to reheat individual servings whenever needed.

Step 7

Serve the mashed potatoes on a plate. For an enhanced experience, you can place a slice of cheddar cheese on top to let it melt slightly, or sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese and dried parsley flakes for an attractive finish and an even richer flavor profile. These mashed potatoes pair wonderfully with steak, roast chicken, and many other main courses.
