Cabbage and Vienna Sausage Stir-Fry: A Perfect Side Dish & Late-Night Snack
Savory Cabbage and Vienna Sausage Stir-Fry: A Must-Try for Rice or Late-Night Bites
Forget sweet and sour; this savory stir-fry is the perfect companion for your rice or a late-night snack! It’s incredibly easy and simple to make, guaranteed to be a hit. (Measurements are based on a standard ‘dad’s spoon’.)
Main Ingredients
- Vienna sausages 550g (Score them in a crisscross or octopus pattern)
- 1/2 onion (Thinly sliced)
- 2 cabbage leaves (Cut into large pieces)
Seasoning
- 1 tsp oyster sauce
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 0.5 tsp sugar
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp corn syrup (or oligodang)
- A pinch of sesame seeds
- 1 tsp oyster sauce
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 0.5 tsp sugar
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp corn syrup (or oligodang)
- A pinch of sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Pour about two drizzles of olive oil into a pan over low heat. Add the minced garlic to the unheated oil and let it gently heat up to infuse the oil with garlic flavor. (Making garlic oil)
Step 2
When the garlic just starts to lightly cook, add the thinly sliced onion. Stir-fry until the onion becomes translucent.
Step 3
Once the onion is semi-transparent, add the large pieces of cabbage and stir-fry together.
Step 4
When the cabbage starts to soften and become semi-transparent, add 1 tsp of oyster sauce. Mix well and continue to stir-fry. The oyster sauce provides plenty of flavor, but feel free to adjust to your taste.
Step 5
This combination alone is delicious, but today we’re adding a special touch! Add the Vienna sausages, which have been scored to resemble octopuses or a ribbed pattern, and stir-fry them with the vegetables.
Step 6
As the sausages begin to cook, add 1 tsp chili powder, 0.5 tsp sugar, and 0.5 tsp black pepper. Gently toss everything together, being careful not to break the ingredients. Ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed.
Step 7
Now, increase the heat to medium and continue to stir-fry. Cook until the ingredients are well combined and have a nice sheen.
Step 8
When the sausage shapes are nicely defined and the overall color looks appetizing, turn off the heat. Drizzle 1 tsp of corn syrup (or oligodang) and stir gently with the residual heat for a glossy finish. (From this point onwards, cook using only the residual heat of the pan.)
Step 9
Carefully toss the ingredients to avoid breaking them. Finish by sprinkling a generous amount of sesame seeds for a nutty aroma. It’s ready!
Step 10
The Cabbage and Vienna Sausage Stir-Fry is complete! Today, I used only white vegetables for a clean look. (If you prefer more vegetables, feel free to add carrots or bell peppers.)
Step 11
A tempting photo of the finished dish! Store any leftover sausages in a container and enjoy later. This savory flavor is perfect for making a bowl of rice disappear in no time!
