  • 1/2 green onion, chopped (also good for garnish)
  • 1 handful sausage, sliced into bite-sized pieces

  • Pinch of salt (for seasoning)
  • Pinch of black pepper (for seasoning)

Yakisoba Sauce
  • 3 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 Tbsp oyster sauce
  • 3 Tbsp ketchup (optional, great for kids’ taste)
  • 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp sugar

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the various ingredients that will add flavor to your Yakisoba. Thinly slice the onion, and julienne the carrot into similar thickness. Mince the garlic. Slice the bacon and sausage into bite-sized pieces (about 2-3 cm). Peel and devein the shrimp, cleaning them thoroughly. Finally, chop the green onion. (If you have cabbage, slice it thinly and prepare it as well!)

Step 2

Lightly grease a pan and heat it over medium heat. Add the prepared bacon and sausage first and stir-fry until golden brown to enhance their flavor. Then, add the shrimp and cook until they turn pink. (You can substitute with pork, squid, or other seafood and meats according to your preference.)

Step 3

Once the meat and seafood are partially cooked, add the prepared onion, carrot, and minced garlic. Stir-fry briefly until the vegetables are just tender, maintaining their slight crispness. Be careful not to overcook, as this will make the vegetables lose their crisp texture.

Step 4

Now it’s time to prepare the Yakisoba noodles. Store-bought Yakisoba noodles don’t need to be separated beforehand. Spread the noodles in the pan and lightly pan-fry them for about 1-2 minutes per side, using the pan’s heat, remaining oil, and moisture. Once the noodles are slightly browned, evenly arrange the stir-fried ingredients on top of the noodles. Then, pour 2-3 tablespoons of water around the noodles and immediately cover the pan with a lid to steam the noodles until tender. This process helps soften the noodles and allows them to absorb the sauce well.

Step 5

Let’s make the Yakisoba sauce! Using a store-bought Otafuku Yakisoba sauce makes it simple and delicious. For a homemade sauce, the base is 3 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 3 Tbsp oyster sauce, 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce, and 1 Tbsp sugar. If you’re serving it to children, adding 3 Tbsp of ketchup is recommended. (Ketchup is optional, but it adds umami and makes it even tastier!) Add the prepared sauce to the pan and stir-fry to combine the noodles and ingredients evenly. Taste and add more sauce if needed, according to your preference.

Step 6

Finally, plate the well-stirred Yakisoba attractively in a bowl for a complete and delicious dish! If desired, sprinkle with katsuobushi or aonori (seaweed flakes) for an extra professional touch and flavor. Enjoy it while it’s hot!
