Cooking Instructions

Step 1

This dish is a must-have for special occasions like Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving)! Now, shall we begin making delicious steamed croaker fish? Let’s get started on making your perfect Jogi Jjim.

Step 1

Step 2

First, let’s prepare the croaker fish for a perfect steaming. Remove all the fins from the fish and meticulously scrape off the scales, ensuring even the dorsal fin near the tail is thoroughly cleaned. This step is crucial for a tender texture. Next, we’ll prepare the steaming sauce. In a small bowl, combine a little water with soy sauce, minced garlic, sugar, cheongju, and gochugaru. Stir well to create a smooth sauce. For better flavor penetration, you can lightly score the sides of the croaker fish. However, if you prefer to maintain its shape perfectly and are concerned about it breaking apart when flipping, you can skip the scoring.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a frying pan over medium-low heat and add a little oil. Add the chopped green onions and sauté them briefly to release their fragrance, creating a fragrant scallion oil. Carefully place the prepared croaker fish on top of the fragrant oil. Drizzle the prepared steaming sauce evenly over the fish. Ensure the sauce coats the fish well.

Step 3

Step 4

Cover the pan and let the fish steam gently over low heat for about 5-7 minutes. Then, carefully flip the fish and steam the other side. Avoid flipping too often, as the fish is delicate and can break apart easily. Continue to steam until the fish is cooked through and the sauce has slightly reduced. Your tender and flavorful steamed croaker fish is now ready to be enjoyed!
