Warming Pear and Honey Concoction (Baesuk)
Homemade Pear and Honey Concoction to Prevent Colds
With the sudden drop in temperature, I decided to make a soothing pear and honey concoction, perfect for warding off colds.
Ingredients- 1 Pear (choose a firm, ripe one)
- 2 Jujubes (dried red dates)
- 1 small piece of Ginger (about thumbnail size)
- Pinch of Cinnamon powder
- 2 Tbsp Honey
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the pear thoroughly. Using a paring knife and a teaspoon, carefully hollow out the core of the pear. Leave about 2 cm of the flesh and skin intact to ensure the pear holds its shape during steaming and can contain the filling. Set the scooped-out pear flesh aside.
Step 2
Peel the ginger and slice it thinly into rounds. Wash the jujubes, remove the seeds, and then slice them thinly into slivers. Having these ingredients prepped will make the next step much smoother.
Step 3
Now it’s time to fill the hollowed-out pear. Place the reserved pear flesh back into the hollowed pear, along with the sliced ginger, slivered jujubes, and a pinch of cinnamon powder. Finally, drizzle 2 tablespoons of honey over the filling. Once filled, place the pear in a steamer or a pot with a lid. Steam gently (bain-marie method) for about 1 hour, or until the pear becomes translucent and tender. Ensure the water doesn’t boil over during steaming by adjusting the heat. Your comforting Baesuk is ready!
