  • Ingredient Category : Fruits
  • Occasion : Snack
  • Cooking : Braise
  • Servings : 1 serving
  • Cooking Time : Within 60 minutes
  • Difficulty : Intermediate

Ingredients

  • 2 Apples (medium-sized, firm and crisp varieties recommended)
  • 1 cup Water (200ml)
  • 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar (approx. 100g, adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup Lemon Juice (50ml, fresh or store-bought)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Begin by washing the 2 apples thoroughly. While the peels are nutritious, if you prefer a softer texture, you can peel them thinly using a knife or a peeler. If keeping the peels on, ensure they are cleaned very well by scrubbing with baking soda or coarse salt.

Step 1

Step 2

Cut the apples in half and carefully remove the core and seeds. Then, chop the edible part of the apples into bite-sized pieces. Cubes of about 1.5-2 cm or wedges work well. Be mindful not to cut them too small, as they might break down too much during cooking.

Step 2

Step 3

Now, grab a saucepan. Combine the chopped apples, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, lemon juice, and 1 cup of water. Stir everything together well. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it gently simmer for 25 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pot. You’ll notice a wonderful aroma as the cinnamon and apple flavors meld together.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the compote has reached your desired consistency, turn off the heat and let it cool completely at room temperature. The compote will thicken further as it cools. Transfer the cooled apple compote into a sterilized airtight container for storage. It can be kept in the refrigerator for up to about 2 weeks.
