Make Simple and Delicious Baesook Easily!
Do you often receive pears as gifts during Chuseok? Instead of just eating them, try creating a wonderful meal using them. This recipe highlights the natural, subtle sweetness of the pear, resulting in a healthy and clean flavor profile. It might taste less sweet compared to recipes with added sugar. Ingredients- 1 Pear (choose a large, firm one)
- 500ml Water (about 2 cups)
- 1 piece of Ginger (thumb-sized)
- 10 whole Black Peppercorns
- 3 Tbsp Honey (adjust to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the pear thoroughly. Then, using a knife, remove the core and seeds from the center. Cut the pear into 8 wedges. Keep in mind that the cooking time may vary depending on the firmness of the pear.
Step 2
Peel the skin off the cut pear wedges. Peeling the skin will result in a clearer broth and a smoother texture.
Step 3
Now, prepare a pot. Pour 500ml of water into the pot, which will form the base of your Baesook. You can adjust the amount of water based on the size of your pear and your desired broth consistency.
Step 4
Add the peeled pear wedges, the peeled ginger piece, and the 10 whole black peppercorns to the pot with water. The ginger will help eliminate any peary smell and add a subtle aroma, while the peppercorns will remove any unwanted odors and enhance the overall flavor.
Step 5
Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low. Let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the pear pieces are tender and the broth has become clear and flavorful. The pears should look slightly translucent and float to the surface. Finally, stir in 3 tablespoons of honey, adjusting the amount to your preference. Simmer for a short while longer after adding honey to allow the flavors to meld together harmoniously. Enjoy it warm for the best taste.
