Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the eggs. Crack 5 eggs into a bowl and gently mix them, separating the whites and yolks. Separating them this way helps create a softer egg roll.
Step 2
Add seasonings to the separated eggs to balance the flavor. Add 1 pinch of seasoned salt for basic seasoning, and if you like, add 1 pinch of MSG to further enhance the savory taste. Mix well.
Step 3
Prepare the walnuts. Place the 5 prepared walnuts in a plastic bag or wrap them in a clean cloth. Use a rolling pin or the bottom of a cup to crush them into bite-sized pieces. It’s better to crush them slightly so there’s a bit of texture, rather than making them into a fine powder.
Step 4
Add the crushed walnuts to the bowl with the separated egg whites and mix well. This ensures the walnuts are evenly distributed within the egg white, providing a delightful crunch when the roll is cooked.
Step 5
Now, let’s start cooking the egg roll. Heat a frying pan over medium-low heat, then add a generous amount of cooking oil, spreading it evenly across the pan. Using too much oil can prevent the egg from cooking evenly, so use an appropriate amount.
Step 6
First, pour a thin layer of the egg white mixture with walnuts into the heated frying pan. Once the egg starts to set slightly, carefully begin to roll it from one end, like making sushi. Push the cooked portion to one side of the pan.
Step 7
After rolling the egg white mixture, pour a thin layer of the egg yolk mixture over it. Then, continue rolling, incorporating the yolk mixture with the previously rolled part. By layering and rolling like this, you’ll achieve a thicker and more appealing egg roll.
Step 8
Once the egg roll is nicely cooked, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly. Then, slice it into bite-sized pieces (about 1.5-2 cm thick). To get clean cuts without crumbling the egg, you can slightly dampen your knife with water or wipe it with a paper towel between slices.
Step 9
Finally, arrange the finished walnut egg roll beautifully on a plate. If desired, drizzle with ketchup to your liking, and your delicious walnut egg roll is ready! Enjoy it as a snack for kids or a hearty side dish.
