Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare your ingredients. You’ll need two 140g cans of tuna, drained. For the vegetables, finely chop about 1/4 zucchini, 1/5 carrot, and 1/8 medium onion. Also, slice 2 slices of ham. Aim for small, uniform pieces so they cook evenly and blend well.
Step 2
Let’s cut the vegetables. Stand the carrot upright and thinly slice it, then julienne into fine strips. For the onion, slicing it horizontally before julienning can help reduce tears. Cut the zucchini in half lengthwise, then slice it vertically, and finally cut those strips in half to create small square shapes. Uniformity in size ensures a pleasant texture throughout the salad.
Step 3
Place the chopped vegetables into a plastic bag. Add the 1.25ml (about 1/2 tsp) of salt. Seal the bag, leaving some air inside, and shake it well to distribute the salt evenly. Then, remove the air and tie the bag securely. Gently massage the vegetables through the bag; this helps draw out excess moisture, making them crisper and preventing the salad from becoming watery.
Step 4
Now, let’s make the delicious mayonnaise dressing. In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise, grated Parmesan cheese, vinegar, sugar, and a pinch of black pepper. Whisk everything together until smooth and well incorporated.
Step 5
Dice the sliced ham into small squares. For the tuna, after draining it thoroughly, place it in a corner of a plastic bag. Hold the bag’s opening downwards and use both hands to firmly squeeze out any remaining oil. This step is crucial for a clean flavor and prevents greasiness. Add the well-squeezed tuna to the prepared mayonnaise dressing.
Step 6
Similarly, take the salted vegetables out of their bag and squeeze out all the accumulated moisture. Add these squeezed vegetables to the bowl with the tuna and dressing. Gently mix everything together until all ingredients are well coated. For a final touch, sprinkle with dried parsley if desired. Your delicious tuna mayonnaise salad is ready! It’s wonderful served immediately, or chilled in the refrigerator for an even richer flavor.
