  • 1 block firm tofu (approx. 300g)
  • 1 can Spam (approx. 200g)
  • 2 eggs
  • Pancake mix or flour, as needed
  • Salt, to taste

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, gather your ingredients: 1 block of tofu, 1 can of Spam, 2 eggs, and some pancake mix. A pinch of salt will also be needed.

Step 1

Step 2

Crack the 2 eggs into a wide bowl.

Step 2

Step 3

Add a small pinch of salt to season the eggs. Be careful not to add too much.

Step 3

Step 4

Whisk the salted eggs thoroughly with a fork or whisk until smooth and well combined. Ensure there are no lumps.

Step 4

Step 5

Gently pat the tofu dry with paper towels. Then, cut both the tofu and the Spam into bite-sized pieces, about 1.5 cm thick. Spam can be removed from the can and sliced similarly.

Step 5

Step 6

In a separate dish, place a suitable amount of pancake mix (or flour) for coating.

Step 6

Step 7

Now it’s time to assemble the sandwiches. Take one slice of the cut tofu.

Step 7

Step 8

Place a slice of Spam on top of the tofu.

Step 8

Step 9

Cover the Spam with another slice of tofu, creating a sandwich shape. The layers should be tofu-Spam-tofu.

Step 9

Step 10

Arrange the assembled tofu Spam sandwiches side-by-side. They look quite cute when stacked!

Step 10

Step 11

Pick up each tofu Spam sandwich and coat it evenly with the pancake mix on all sides. Gently press the mix onto the tofu so it adheres well.

Step 11

Step 12

Next, dip the coated sandwiches into the whisked egg mixture, ensuring they are fully covered with egg on both sides. Generous egg coating will help them fry up beautifully.

Step 12

Step 13

Heat a frying pan over medium-low heat with a generous amount of cooking oil. Carefully place the egg-coated tofu Spam sandwiches into the hot pan. Avoid overheating, as the outside might burn before the inside cooks.

Step 13

Step 14

Fry over medium-low heat, flipping occasionally, until both sides are golden brown and crispy. Cook slowly to ensure the inside is heated through. This usually takes about 2-3 minutes per side.

Step 14

Step 15

After a bit of patient frying, your delicious Tofu Spam Sandwiches are ready! Enjoy the fantastic combination of a crispy exterior and a soft, flavorful interior. They are also great served with ketchup or tartar sauce.
