Air Fryer Perilla Oil Tofu Steak: A Deliciously Healthy and Low-Calorie Diet Meal
Let’s make some delicious pan-fried tofu steaks with the nutty aroma of perilla oil. This recipe uses an air fryer for a healthier, quicker, and tastier result.
Tofu Steak Ingredients- 1 block Firm Tofu (firm or pan-frying type recommended)
- 1 handful Green Onion (finely chopped)
- 1/2 Korean Chili (deseeded and finely chopped, adjust to spice preference)
- 1 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
- A pinch of Sesame Seeds (for garnish)
- 1 tsp Minced Garlic
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
We’re going to make a savory and nutty tofu steak that’s perfect with rice! Using an air fryer makes it extra simple and healthy.
Step 2
First, it’s crucial to drain as much water as possible from the tofu. Wrap the tofu in paper towels and press firmly, or place a heavy object on top to squeeze out the excess water. Once drained, secure the tofu with chopsticks and make cuts about two-thirds of the way into the tofu. This helps the marinade penetrate deeply and keeps the tofu from falling apart during cooking.
Step 3
Gently spread 1 teaspoon of perilla oil into the cuts you made in the tofu. The perilla oil will infuse into the tofu, adding a wonderful nutty flavor when cooked.
Step 4
Now it’s time for the air fryer. Place the perilla oil-coated tofu into your air fryer basket (Seras-ten or similar). Air fry at 200°C (392°F) for 15 minutes, until the tofu is golden brown.
Step 5
While the tofu is cooking, let’s prepare a delicious glaze. In a bowl, combine the chopped green onion, deseeded and chopped Korean chili, red pepper flakes, minced garlic, soy sauce, water, sugar, and the 3 tablespoons of perilla oil for the glaze. Mix everything well until combined. Add a pinch of sesame seeds for extra aroma. (Tip: If you like it spicier, add more Korean chili. If cooking for children or those who prefer less spice, you can omit the chili or substitute it with bell peppers.)
Step 6
Remove the tofu from the air fryer after 15 minutes. Brush the prepared glaze generously over the tofu. Return the tofu to the air fryer and cook at 200°C (392°F) for another 5 minutes. This allows the glaze to caramelize and adhere beautifully, enhancing both the flavor and appearance. The tofu will be crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. And there you have it – your irresistible perilla oil tofu steak is ready! Serve it hot over a bowl of rice for a truly satisfying meal.
