Main Ingredients
  • 300g dried tteokbokki rice cakes (wheat-based)
  • Fish cakes (eomuk), as desired

Broth
  • 3 cups water (using a standard Korean paper cup)

Seasoning
  • 2 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1 Tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 Tbsp curry powder (the magical powder!)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

In a wide pan or pot, add 3 cups of water. This forms the base for your delicious tteokbokki broth.

Step 2

Once the water comes to a rolling boil, stir in 2 tablespoons of gochujang. It’s important to dissolve the gochujang completely into the boiling water to create a smooth, flavorful sauce.

Step 3

After the gochujang sauce has dissolved and is boiling, add the 300g of tteokbokki rice cakes. Gently stir to prevent the rice cakes from sticking together.

Step 4

Simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the rice cakes become soft and the sauce thickens slightly. Make sure to stir to prevent the rice cakes from sticking to the bottom of the pan.

Step 5

When the rice cakes are tender and the sauce has reduced a bit, add the fish cakes (cut into desired pieces). The fish cakes will absorb the flavorful sauce, making them even tastier.

Step 6

Once the rice cakes and fish cakes are cooked to your liking, add 1 tablespoon of sugar to balance the flavors. Feel free to adjust the sweetness to your preference.

Step 7
