On a lazy weekend afternoon, when you don’t feel like doing much but still want something delicious! Utilize ingredients from your fridge to create a fantastic meal. Introducing ‘Jjajang Rabokki,’ a special meeting of Sachun Jjapa Getti and Jin Ramen, enhanced with gochujang and chili powder for a spicy tteokbokki kick, and a rich jjajang sauce for deep flavor. Instead of using Jin Ramen’s powder soup, we’ve incorporated gochujang and chili powder to capture the savory essence of tteokbokki, and used Sachun Jjapa Getti’s jjajang soup base for that addictive, Sindang-dong style black bean paste flavor. Adding ingredients like fish cakes, imitation crab sticks, and cabbage makes it even more hearty and delicious. This easy-to-follow recipe is perfect for beginners. Let’s start making this wonderful Jjajang Rabokki!
Ingredients
- 1 packet Jin Ramen
- 1 packet Sachun Jjapa Getti
- 1 Jin Ramen flake packet
- 1 Sachun Jjapa Getti flake packet
- 1 Sachun Jjapa Getti powder soup packet
- 1 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 tsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 2 Tbsp Honey
- 1 tsp Minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp Chopped green onion (for stir-frying)
- 3 cups Natural seasoning broth (or water)
- 3 Tbsp Chopped green onion (for garnish)
- 2 sheets Fish cake
- 3 sticks Imitation crab stick
- Cabbage, a small amount (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare all the ingredients for the dish. For the ramen, have one packet of Jin Ramen and one packet of Sachun Jjapa Getti ready. Gather gochujang and chili powder for the tteokbokki flavor, along with fish cakes, imitation crab sticks, and any leftover cabbage from your fridge (or use fresh cabbage if you have it!). Cut them into bite-sized pieces.
Step 2
Pour 3 cups of natural seasoning broth (or water) into a pot. Add 1 tablespoon of gochujang and 1 teaspoon of gochugaru, stirring well to dissolve any clumps. Start heating over medium heat.
Step 3
Check the included soup packets for your Sachun Jjapa Getti and Jin Ramen. We’ll be using the Jin Ramen flake packet, the Sachun Jjapa Getti flake packet, and the Sachun Jjapa Getti powder soup packet. We’re skipping the Jin Ramen powder soup because the gochujang will provide the tteokbokki-like spiciness. This combination ensures a spicy flavor with a deep jjajang aroma.
Step 4
Once the broth begins to boil, add 1 teaspoon of minced garlic and 1 tablespoon of the chopped green onions (for stir-frying) to enhance the fragrance.
Step 5
When the broth comes to a rolling boil, add all the flake soup packets to boost the ramen’s flavor. Toss in both the Jin Ramen and Sachun Jjapa Getti flakes.
Step 6
Now it’s time to add the noodles. Start by adding the Sachun Jjapa Getti noodles, followed by the Jin Ramen noodles. Even though the noodles aren’t particularly thin, they will cook beautifully together. Then, add the prepared fish cakes, imitation crab sticks, and cabbage (or regular cabbage). The fish cakes will add a richer depth to the broth.
Step 7
Finally, stir in the Sachun Jjapa Getti powder soup to create the rich jjajang sauce. The chili oil included with Sachun Jjapa Getti is usually for mixing dry noodles, but since we’re cooking it like a stir-fry today, we’ll omit it. It incorporates better when stir-frying with less liquid.
Step 8
As the noodles cook, the broth will gradually reduce and thicken. Once the noodles are fully cooked, it’s ready. Stir everything together well to ensure all ingredients are evenly coated. Lastly, add 2 tablespoons of honey for a subtle sweetness. This will help the sauce cling beautifully to the noodles and ingredients, completing your delicious Jjajang Rabokki.
Step 9
Instead of serving directly from the pot you cooked the Jjajang Rabokki in, it’s best to transfer it to a separate serving bowl. Leaving it in the pot for too long can cause the noodles to become mushy. Serve it up generously in a nice bowl!
Step 10
As a final touch, generously sprinkle the 3 tablespoons of chopped green onions (for garnish) over the finished Jjajang Rabokki, and add a pinch of sesame seeds. The fantastic fusion of Sachun Jjapa Getti and Jin Ramen has resulted in a spicy and sweet Jjajang Rabokki! If you have leftover kimbap to go with it, it’ll be an even more perfect weekend lunch.
