This Jjolmyeon sauce recipe received a ‘thumbs up’ from my two daughters. It’s incredibly delicious!
Ingredients for Jjolmyeon Sauce- 5 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste, generous)
- 2 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes, fine)
- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 3 Tbsp Oligodang (corn syrup) or Mulyeot (starch syrup)
- 3 Tbsp Mirin (rice wine for cooking)
- 2 Tbsp 2x Concentrated Vinegar
- 1/2 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- A pinch of Toasted Sesame Seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare 5 generous tablespoons of Gochujang (Korean chili paste). This forms the spicy base of your Jjolmyeon sauce.
Step 2
Next, add 2 tablespoons of fine Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) to achieve a deep spiciness and vibrant color. Using fine flakes will help the sauce blend smoothly.
Step 3
Incorporate 3 tablespoons of Mirin (rice wine for cooking). This helps remove any unpleasant odors and adds a delightful savory depth. The alcohol will evaporate during cooking.

Add 1/2 tablespoon of freshly minced garlic. The pungent aroma of garlic will elevate the overall flavor profile of the sauce.

Now, for the sweetness! Add 3 tablespoons of Oligodang (corn syrup) or Mulyeot (starch syrup). You can adjust the sweetness to your preference.
