Avocado Jang (Soy Marinated Avocados) – My Daughters’ Top Recommendation!

The Tastiest Avocado Soy Sauce Marinade: A Quick & Easy Recipe

These days, people are marinating all sorts of ingredients, not just crab or shrimp! I decided to try making ‘Avocado Jang’ (soy-marinated avocados), and it turned out to be incredibly delicious. My daughters living in the US highly recommended it, and I’m so glad I tried it. It’s a unique and flavorful dish that pairs wonderfully with rice.

Main Ingredients

  • 2 Avocados
  • 7 Cherry tomatoes
  • 1/2 Onion

Savory Soy Sauce Marinade

  • 1 cup Soy sauce
  • 1 cup Water
  • 3 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Lemon juice or vinegar

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Here are the super simple ingredients that will make your Avocado Jang shine. If you enjoy a bit of heat, feel free to add one finely chopped Cheongyang pepper for a spicy kick. (We personally prefer milder flavors, so we omitted it.)

Step 1

Step 2

Wash the cherry tomatoes thoroughly under running water. Remove the stems and make a small cross-shaped incision on the bottom of each tomato. Peel the onion and slice it into thick strips.

Step 2

Step 3

For the best results, choose avocados that are slightly firm rather than overly ripe. Halve the avocados, remove the pits, and then slice them into your desired shapes. Both cubes or slices work wonderfully.

Step 3

Step 4

While I initially sliced mine into wedges, I found that cubing them helps prevent the soy sauce from penetrating too deeply, allowing the natural flavor of the avocado to shine through more. Feel free to cut them according to your preference.

Step 4

Step 5

Arrange the prepared avocados, cherry tomatoes, and onions in a sterilized airtight container. Pour the homemade savory soy sauce marinade evenly over the ingredients, ensuring they are submerged.

Step 5

Step 6

Whisper a little ‘become delicious!’ wish over the container, seal it tightly, and refrigerate for at least one day to let the flavors meld beautifully. The ingredients will absorb the rich umami taste.

Step 6

Step 7

Now, it’s time to enjoy! Serve over a generous portion of warm rice in a large bowl. Top with the marinated avocado mixture, a perfectly soft-boiled egg, a drizzle of sesame oil, and a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds for a delightful meal.

Step 7

Step 8

The cherry tomatoes turned out surprisingly sweet and tangy after marinating, which was fantastic. The crisp texture of the onions added a lovely contrast, and the avocado was wonderfully creamy and not at all greasy, creating a perfect harmony with the soy sauce.
