Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Hello everyone! Today, I’m going to show you how to easily make a delicious scallion salad at home, the perfect accompaniment to your grilled meats. And don’t worry if you don’t have a special scallion cutter! I’ll show you a secret technique using just a knife to cut thin and even scallions, so let’s get started right away!

Step 2

First, prepare your scallions. It’s best to cut them to about the size of a child’s palm. If they’re too long, it can be inconvenient when mixing the salad, and you might have to cut them again later. We’ll use both the white and green parts of the scallions. Place the cut scallions vertically on a cutting board. Imagine you’re making cuts into the top part, and slice lengthwise, making long cuts, being careful not to cut all the way through to the bottom. (Making cuts about 0.5 cm apart is recommended.)

Step 3

If you look closely at the scallions after making the cuts, you’ll see a core-like center part. This part can be a bit thicker and harder to julienne. For this reason, I recommend setting it aside for now. You can use this core part in other dishes later, or you can slice it very thinly and mix it with the scallion salad. For today, we’ll set it aside to make neat scallion strips.

Step 4

Now, take the scallions you’ve made cuts in. Think of rolling them up about two times on the cutting board. Imagine you’re rolling sushi or a Swiss roll – just fold it twice. This will stack the scallions into layers, making them easy to cut all at once.

Step 5

With the scallions folded twice, use your knife to thinly julienne them. With just a few swift cuts, you’ll have beautiful scallion strips in no time! Isn’t it much simpler than you thought? This method creates scallions that are beautifully shaped and uniformly thick, just like they would be if you used a special scallion cutter.

Step 6

Because we’re cutting them in layers like this, it might look like a small amount at first glance, but you’ll actually end up with quite a generous portion of scallions. It’s much more efficient and quicker to prepare a large amount of scallions this way compared to cutting them one by one.

Step 7

Finally, the green leafy parts of the scallions will likely be separated, not in layers. For these parts, first cut them in half, then stack 3-4 layers together and slice them all at once. This way, you can quickly and easily prepare all the scallions into scallion strips. See? Cutting scallions isn’t difficult at all! Now, use these prepared scallions to make a delicious scallion salad and enjoy!
