Main Ingredients

  • Pork belly slices (thinly sliced, ‘daepae samgyeopsal’) 500g
  • 1 medium onion
  • Pinch of black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare 500g of thinly sliced pork belly, known as ‘daepae samgyeopsal.’ Its thinness is a great advantage for quick cooking.

Step 1

Step 2

Next, wash and peel 1 medium onion, then slice it into strips about 0.5cm thick. If you prefer a crisper texture, you can slice it a bit thicker.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a pan over high heat. Add all the prepared pork belly slices and sprinkle a pinch of black pepper. Be cautious as thinly sliced pork belly can splatter oil.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the pork belly starts to cook, add 1 Tbsp of minced garlic and 1 Tbsp of sugar. Stir-fry quickly to prevent burning. The garlic will infuse the meat with its aroma, making it even more delicious.

Step 4

Step 5

Add the sliced onion and stir-fry until the pork is fully cooked. If you’d like the onion to remain crispier, you can stir-fry it separately for a short time or add it towards the end of the cooking process.

Step 5

Step 6

As the pork belly cooks, it will release a lot of oil and moisture, especially if using frozen pork. Before adding the sauce, carefully drain off most of the excess oil from the pan. This will ensure a cleaner, less greasy stir-fry.

Step 6

Step 7

After draining the oil, add 1 Tbsp of oyster sauce and 1 Tbsp of soy sauce. Continue to stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes, ensuring the sauce coats the pork and onions evenly. This step creates a delicious glaze on the meat.

Step 7

Step 8

Finally, add 2 Tbsp of corn syrup for a glossy finish and drizzle in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil for a fragrant aroma. Stir everything together quickly, just a few seconds, to avoid burning. This final toss brings all the flavors together perfectly.

Step 8

Step 9

Your perfectly balanced sweet and savory Pork Belly Stir-Fry is ready! Serve it alongside refreshing cold noodles or on top of hot rice for a delightful meal.
