  • Small amount of Chopped Nuts

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, pat the beef tenderloin dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. This ensures a better sear and juicy interior. Then, brush generously with olive oil, and season with black pepper and herb salt. Let the steak sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes to even out the temperature, which helps it cook more evenly.

Step 2

Finely mince the onion. Heat a little olive oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the minced onion and sauté until translucent. Sautéing the onion releases its natural sweetness, which will enhance the flavor of your sauce.

Step 3

Push the sautéed onions to one side of the pan, and pour in the red wine. Once the wine begins to simmer, scrape the bottom of the pan to deglaze, incorporating the browned bits and onion into the wine as it cooks.

Step 4

Simmer the red wine over medium-low heat until it has reduced by about half. Stir in the balsamic vinegar, oyster sauce, and the finely chopped button mushroom (1 mushroom). Simmer for another minute or two, then turn off the heat. Your rich red wine sauce is ready! (Alternatively, a good quality store-bought sauce can be used for convenience.)

Step 5

Now, prepare the salad. Tear the lettuce leaves into bite-sized pieces and place them in a bowl. Halve the cherry tomatoes. Peel the mandarin orange and separate the segments, or chop them into manageable pieces. Feel free to add other greens like arugula or mixed greens according to your preference.

Step 6

Drizzle your preferred store-bought salad dressing over the prepared salad ingredients. Gently toss to coat the vegetables evenly. Adjust the amount of dressing to your liking.

Step 7

Arrange the dressed salad attractively on serving plates. Sprinkle chopped nuts over the top for added texture and a nutty flavor. If you don’t have nuts, this step can be omitted.

Step 8

Toast the bread slices in a toaster or a dry pan until lightly golden and crispy. These toasted bread slices are perfect for serving alongside the steak or for dipping into the sauce.

Step 9

Time to cook the steak! Heat your pan over high heat until very hot. Melt the butter. Place the seasoned tenderloin steak in the center of the hot pan. Add the whole garlic cloves and whole button mushrooms around the steak to cook in the flavorful butter.

Step 10

Sear the steak over high heat for about 4 minutes per side to create a beautiful crust and lock in the juices. Then, reduce the heat to medium and continue cooking for another 2 minutes per side. This method should result in a medium-rare to medium steak, perfectly tender and juicy. (Adjust cooking times based on steak thickness and your stove’s heat.)

Step 11

Transfer the steak to a plate and let it rest for 5-10 minutes. This resting period is crucial for the juices to redistribute, ensuring a tender steak. In the same pan, add the asparagus and sauté briefly until tender-crisp. Add the cooked mushrooms back into the pan and stir-fry gently before turning off the heat.

Step 12

Slice the rested steak into desired portions and arrange it on your serving plate. Add the sautéed asparagus and mushrooms alongside the steak. Generously spoon the prepared red wine sauce over the steak, and your homemade restaurant-quality tenderloin steak is complete!

Step 13

Serve your masterpiece with the toasted bread and the fresh salad for a complete and satisfying meal that rivals any fine dining establishment. Enjoy your luxurious homemade steak dinner!
