Main Ingredients

  • 500g Beef (Bulgogi cut)
  • 1/2 Onion
  • 1 stalk Green Onion

Special Marinade

  • 1/2 Apple (grated or pureed)
  • 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 5 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 4 Tbsp Corn Syrup (Oligodang)
  • 1 Tbsp Plum Extract (Maesilcheong)
  • Pinch of Ginger Powder (or 1/2 tsp minced fresh ginger)
  • 3 Tbsp Cooking Wine (Mirin or similar)
  • Pinch of Black Pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, thoroughly pat the beef dry with paper towels to remove excess blood. This step is crucial for a clean, non-gamey flavor. Slice the beef into bite-sized pieces and place them in a large bowl. Now, let’s prepare the special marinade that will make your Bulgogi incredibly delicious. Peel, core, and finely puree half an apple using a blender. In the same bowl with the beef, add the pureed apple, minced garlic, soy sauce, corn syrup, plum extract, ginger powder, cooking wine, and black pepper. Gently mix everything with your hands, ensuring the marinade coats the beef evenly.

Step 1

Step 2

Slice the onion into thin strips and cut the green onion into diagonal pieces. Add the prepared onion and green onion to the marinated beef and toss lightly to combine.

Step 2

Step 3

You can cook the Bulgogi immediately after marinating, but allowing it to rest for about 10 minutes will let the flavors meld beautifully, resulting in even more tender and flavorful meat. If you’re short on time, feel free to cook it right away.

Step 3

Step 4

Heat a pan over medium-high heat. Add all the marinated beef mixture to the pan. Cooking over high heat helps to lock in the juices, keeping the meat moist and tender.

Step 4

Step 5

As it begins to cook, use a spatula or spoon to gently separate and stir the meat. Continue to cook until the sauce has thickened slightly and the beef is fully cooked. And there you have it – delicious Bulgogi! This dish is perfect as a side for rice or as a delightful main course for guests.
