Tender and Delicious Korean Beef Jeon (Yukjeon) Recipe
Master the Art of Korean Beef Jeon (Yukjeon) – A Crowd-Pleasing Dish!
The moment my children said, ‘Mom, I want Yukjeon!’, I immediately rushed to buy the finest cut of beef, specifically for making Yukjeon. This recipe will guide you through creating perfectly tender and flavorful Korean Beef Jeon at home. With a crispy exterior and a juicy, tender interior, it’s a fantastic dish for holiday tables and a beloved side for kids.
Main Ingredients- 200g Beef Round (specifically for Jeon)
- 1 Egg (can be separated into yolk and white for garnish)
- 5 Tbsp Sweet Rice Flour (the secret to its tender texture!)
- Vegetable Oil (generous amount for frying)
- Pinch of Salt (for seasoning)
- A little Chives (for garnish or serving)
- 1/2 Tbsp Chili Powder (optional, for a touch of spice)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Ta-da! A beautiful and appetizing spread of Yukjeon has bloomed on our dining table, making our mouths water instantly. Isn’t the visual itself delightful?
Step 2
First, prepare 200g of tender beef round, the star of our Yukjeon. If you can purchase it pre-sliced thinly for Jeon, it will make the process even more convenient.
Step 3
Using paper towels, carefully blot and remove any excess blood from the beef. Removing the blood properly is key to achieving a clean, non-gamey, and tender Jeon. Gently press down to absorb the moisture.
Step 4
Now it’s time to dress our beef in a delicious coating! Lightly season the beef with salt after removing the blood. Then, evenly coat each slice with sweet rice flour. A thin, even coating of sweet rice flour is crucial for achieving that delightful crispiness and nutty flavor when fried. Afterward, dip the flour-coated beef into a well-beaten egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully covered. Gently spread the egg wash so it adheres well.
Step 5
Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat and add a generous amount of vegetable oil. Once the oil is shimmering hot, carefully place the coated beef slices into the pan. Fry them until golden brown on both sides. It’s best to cook over medium heat rather than high heat to ensure the beef cooks through without burning. Fry each side for about 2-3 minutes, or until a mouthwatering golden-brown color is achieved.
Step 6
Wow! Perfectly cooked and incredibly appetizing Korean Beef Jeon is ready. Freshly fried, warm Yukjeon is a wonderful dish all on its own.
Step 7
When arranging the finished Jeon on a plate, placing fresh chives at the bottom not only enhances the presentation but also adds a wonderful aroma and flavor. Arrange the chives neatly and then artfully place the warm, fried Yukjeon on top.
Step 8
Alright, it’s time to savor this dish with both our eyes and our taste buds! The combination of tender beef and the crispy coating is truly delicious.
Step 9
And there you have it! A special Yukjeon that will capture everyone’s taste buds is complete. A beautiful bloom of fragrant Yukjeon has graced our dining table!
