Sweet & Tangy Mandarin Orange Compote: Revive Even Less Tasty Oranges!
Transforming Sour Oranges into a Delicious Treat: Mandarin Orange Compote Recipe
Mandarin oranges are packed with Vitamin C, making them a great ally against colds. Don’t let slightly less-than-perfect oranges go to waste! This recipe turns them into a delightful compote, perfect as a spread like jam or enjoyed as a standalone dessert. Simple ingredients and easy steps mean anyone can make this delicious treat.
Ingredients- 7 mandarin oranges (about 500g)
- 350ml water
- 6 Tbsp sugar
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by preparing 7 fresh mandarin oranges. Peel the oranges completely, and be sure to remove the white pith attached to the segments as well. This pith can contribute a bitter taste, so thorough removal ensures a clean, pleasant flavor in your compote. You can also cut the segments in half or into quarters if desired for easier eating.
Step 2
Sterilize the glass jar you’ll use for storage. Submerge the jar in boiling water for about 10 minutes, then carefully remove it and let it air dry completely. Proper sterilization is key to ensuring your compote stays fresh for longer.
Step 3
In a saucepan, combine 350ml of water and 6 tablespoons of sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. Once the syrup begins to boil, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for another 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly into a sugar syrup. Be careful not to let it burn.
Step 4
Arrange the prepared mandarin orange segments into the sterilized glass jar. Pour the warm sugar syrup over the oranges, ensuring they are fully submerged. Seal the jar tightly. Allow it to cool completely at room temperature before refrigerating. The compote will be ready to enjoy after about 2-3 days, as the flavors meld and deepen.
