Main Ingredients

  • 1kg apples (approx. 5-6 medium apples)
  • 400g sugar (white or brown, adjust to apple sweetness)
  • 1/2 fresh lemon (or 1-2 Tbsp lemon juice)

Optional Flavor Boost

  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder (adjust to taste)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare all the ingredients for making delicious apple jam. Cinnamon powder is optional; it adds a warm, fragrant note but can be omitted if you prefer. For the lemon, you can freshly squeeze half a lemon or use 1-2 tablespoons of store-bought lemon juice for convenience.

Step 1

Step 2

Wash the apples thoroughly. Then, peel them thinly. Next, carefully remove the core and seeds using a knife, ensuring they are completely discarded.

Step 2

Step 3

This is a crucial step that determines the texture of your apple jam! If you prefer a jam with some texture and small pieces of apple, finely chop the peeled apples. However, if you desire a smooth and fine jam, place the apples in a blender and process until pureed. Choose the method that best suits your preference!

Step 3

Step 4

Now, in a pot, combine the chopped (or pureed) apples and sugar. Gently mix them together with a spatula or spoon, ensuring the sugar coats the apple pieces evenly. Place the pot over medium heat and simmer for about 20 to 30 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent sticking to the bottom. If you used pureed apples, you might notice foam forming as it heats up. Skim off this foam to maintain a clear and beautiful color for your jam.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the apples and sugar have cooked down and the jam has reduced to about half its original volume, lower the heat to low. Stir in the fresh lemon juice (or bottled lemon juice) and cinnamon powder. Cook for another 5 minutes, stirring gently, until the jam reaches your desired consistency. While the jam is still hot, carefully transfer it into sterilized glass jars. If you used pureed apples, you can test for doneness by dropping a little jam into a bowl of cold water; if it holds its shape without spreading, it’s ready. Be careful not to overcook, as it can become too hard once cooled. Watch the consistency closely.

Step 5

Step 6

Your delicious homemade apple jam is ready! It’s bursting with fragrant apple aroma and has a delightful texture. Enjoy it spread on warm bread, toast, or mixed with yogurt.
