  • Cooking : Boil / Simmer

  • Difficulty : Beginner

Ingredients

  • 80g mashed cooked chestnuts (or chestnut puree)
  • 80g steamed and mashed sweet potato (or sweet potato puree)
  • 150g water
  • 2g agar-agar powder
  • 10g infant formula powder (use formula suitable for the baby’s age)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare your sweet potato and chestnut cubes. If they are frozen, microwave them for about 1 to 1 minute 30 seconds to thaw. Once thawed, mash them gently and mix them together. (If using puree, you can use it directly.)

Step 1

Step 2

In a pot, combine the 150g of water and 2g of agar-agar powder. Stir well to ensure there are no lumps. Place the pot over low heat and gently stir while heating until the agar-agar powder is completely dissolved and the mixture starts to simmer.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the agar-agar powder is fully dissolved, add the 10g of infant formula powder. Whisk it thoroughly until it’s completely smooth and no lumps remain. It’s important to mix this well for a smooth texture for your baby.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, add the mashed sweet potato and chestnut mixture to the pot. Keep the heat on low and use a spatula to stir continuously, ensuring that the ingredients are evenly incorporated and the mixture is smooth. Cooking evenly is key here.

Step 4

Step 5

When the sweet potato and chestnut mixture is well combined with the base and the contents begin to simmer gently, turn off the heat. Be careful as it’s hot. Letting it cool slightly before pouring will help maintain the shape.

Step 5

Step 6

Carefully pour the yeongyang mixture into baby-friendly silicone molds or any desired shape molds. Avoid overfilling them. Place the filled molds in the refrigerator and let them set for about 1 to 2 hours until firm.

Step 6

Step 7

Once the yeongyang is fully set in the refrigerator, carefully unmold them. Cut into bite-sized, baby-friendly pieces. This makes a wonderful homemade first snack for your little one!
