Sweet Shine Muscat Syrup
How to Make Delicious Shine Muscat Syrup
Do you have leftover Shine Muscat grapes from a holiday gift that are no longer perfectly fresh? If they’ve lost their crispness, the stems are browning, or the skin isn’t as vibrant, don’t let them go to waste! Turn them into a delightful Shine Muscat syrup. This recipe involves peeling the grapes and layering them with sugar, creating a beautiful and delicious base for premium beverages. First, sanitize the grapes in a vinegar-water solution, then peel them. Layer the peeled grapes and sugar (using whole cane sugar is recommended!) in a clean glass jar, adding a touch of lemon juice. Let it rest at room temperature for about a day to allow the sugar to dissolve, then refrigerate. Once ready, you can mix the syrup with ice, water, or sparkling water to create refreshing Shine Muscat juice or a vibrant ade. The soft, seedless green grape pearls, free from their skins, offer a delightful burst of flavor and texture. While peeling the grapes can be a bit time-consuming, the convenience of enjoying a superb homemade drink afterward is well worth it. If you find yourself with slightly wilted or surplus Shine Muscat grapes, this syrup is a fantastic way to preserve them, offering both excellent longevity and a visually appealing, flavorful treat for your homemade beverages.
Main Ingredients- 2 bunches Shine Muscat grapes (approx. 3 cups of peeled grapes)
- 250ml sugar (about half the weight of the grapes recommended)
- 2 Tbsp lemon juice
Grape Sanitizing- 1 Liter water
- 2 Tbsp vinegar
- 1 Liter water
- 2 Tbsp vinegar
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Gently detach the Shine Muscat grapes from their stems and rinse them under running water.
Step 2
In a bowl, mix 1 liter of water with 2 tablespoons of vinegar to create a sanitizing solution. Submerge the grapes in this solution for about 10 minutes. This step ensures your syrup is made hygienically.
Step 3
Drain the sanitized grapes. Halve each grape and trim off any darkened parts of the stem. Carefully peel the skin off each grape half. This step requires a bit of effort but ensures a smooth texture in the final syrup.
Step 4
Have your peeled grapes, sugar, and lemon juice ready for assembly.
Step 5
In a clean glass jar, add about 3 tablespoons of the peeled grapes. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of sugar over the grapes.
Step 6
Add about 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, distributing it evenly.
Step 7
Continue layering the peeled grapes and sugar until the jar is nearly full. Finish by covering the top layer of grapes with the remaining sugar. Since Shine Muscat grapes are naturally sweet, you can reduce the sugar to about half the amount of grapes, rather than a 1:1 ratio. Adjust the sugar quantity to your preference.
Step 8
Seal the jar and leave it at room temperature for about a day, or until the sugar has completely dissolved. Once the sugar has dissolved, transfer the jar to the refrigerator for storage. For the best flavor, allow the syrup to mature for about a week before consuming.
