  • Cooking Time : Within 15 minutes
  • Difficulty : Beginner

Tteokbokki Ingredients

  • 400g Tteokbokki rice cakes
  • 7 cloves garlic, minced (or 7 thin slices)
  • 1/4 red bell pepper
  • 1/4 green onion
  • 2 imitation crab sticks (krab meat)
  • 1/2 pack enoki mushrooms

Seasoning & Additional Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • Honey (to taste)
  • Sesame oil (to taste)
  • Toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, soak the tteokbokki rice cakes in cold water for about 10 minutes. This softens them and makes it easier to separate any stuck-together pieces. Drain the rice cakes in a colander.

Step 1

Step 2

Next, prepare the vegetables and garlic for the tteokbokki. Slice the garlic thinly, and chop the red bell pepper and green onion into bite-sized pieces.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a pan over medium-high heat. Add the tteokbokki rice cakes and the sliced garlic, and stir-fry them quickly. It’s important to stir-fry until the moisture from the rice cakes evaporates, giving them a chewy texture.

Step 3

Step 4

Remove the rice cakes from the pan temporarily. Add a little cooking oil to the pan and stir-fry the chopped red bell pepper and green onion until fragrant.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the vegetables are slightly cooked, add 1 Tbsp of soy sauce and stir-fry over medium heat to allow the flavors to meld. Be careful not to overcook, as the vegetables can become mushy.

Step 5

Step 6

Return the stir-fried rice cakes to the pan and mix them well with the vegetables. Turn off the heat, transfer to a bowl, drizzle with honey and sesame oil to your liking, and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds. Your first batch of tteokbokki is ready!

Step 6

Step 7

Now, let’s make the second batch! Prepare sliced garlic, enoki mushrooms, and imitation crab sticks (krab meat). Shred the crab sticks into bite-sized pieces.

Step 7

Step 8

Heat the pan again and add the tteokbokki rice cakes and sliced garlic. Stir-fry them, just like the first batch, until the rice cakes are chewy.

Step 8

Step 9

Once the rice cakes are somewhat cooked, add the enoki mushrooms and stir-fry them together. Enoki mushrooms cook quickly, so stir-fry them briefly.

Step 9

Step 10

Add 0.8 Tbsp of soy sauce and stir-fry over medium heat until the rice cakes and mushrooms are evenly seasoned.

Step 10

Step 11

When the rice cakes and mushrooms are fully cooked, add the shredded imitation crab sticks and mix gently. Crab sticks can break apart if overcooked, so add them at the very end and mix quickly.

Step 11

Step 12

Plate the finished tteokbokki nicely. Drizzle with honey and sesame oil attractively, and garnish with toasted sesame seeds. Enjoy these two delicious styles of honey tteokbokki!
